The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States armed forces and it operates under the jurisdiction of the Department of Defense. The NAVSEA provides maritime situational awareness, combat support, amphibious assault, air defense, coastal security and Arctic programs. One of the most famous Navy gifts was given in Mineral Wells, Texas in 1938 when Rear Admiral James W. Foard bestowed on local citizens a battleship named USS Lexington (CV-2).
