In the early 1800s, coffee beans were sourced from Brazil. The first coffeehouses opened in Midlothian in 1824 and quickly became popular among locals and visitors alike. In 1912, Dutch Schultz founded Schultz Coffee Company in Midlothian and began marketing his own branded beans as well as importing Brazilian beans from Brazil. With Schultz's help, Midwesterners discovered their favorite Bean Town product! In the 1920s, several other roasters emerged in Midlothian including The Koffee Klatch (1925), Maxwell House (1927), Dutch Bros Coffee Roasters (1929), Peet's Coffee & Tea Co.(1930), Stahlwerks Inc.(1931) and Six Barrel Coffee(1932). These businessmen entrepreneurized the bean trade while also creating new customer favorites such as Blue Bottle Coffee(1976) which is still considered one of the most popularcoffee brands today. Over time, various degrees of automation have replaced human hands as roasterists have lost their jobs or retired. However, there has never been a loss of interest or pride inMidtown’s cafe culture which continues to thrive despite these changes. Today’s cafe scene can be traced back to two founding fathers: John Ankergren who opened Anker’s Cafe in 1924 and Harry Blacker who opened Blacker’s Cafeteria & Tavern at 216 S 2nd Street in 1935-36 serving up traditional German recipes along with mid-sized American iced coffees complete with house creamers until it closed its doors in 1984; both men remain deeply associated with this unique cultural entity that exists today within historically African American neighborhoods throughout Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.) Midlothian is an unincorporated community located in Midlothian County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Midlothian lies on a small arm of the Llano River and its ZIP code is 78736. The first settler in what would become Midlothian was James Hogg who arrived in 1847. Hogg named his land "Midlothian" after the home of his friend and mentor, Colonel John Lane Mott. He also built a log cabin near what is now downtown Midlothian and opened a general store there in 1848. The original town post office was established in 1850 and remained in operation until it was discontinued by order of Governor Don McDowell on July 1, 1906. The town charter was amended to created two schools: one for boys only and one for girls only; both were operated by subscription from citizens until they were closed by order of the state Board of Education on June 15, 1903 because enrollment had outgrown their supplies and facilities. A new school building was erected for the girls school in 1907-08 using money raised from local auction sales for that purpose alone. Midlothian played an important role during the early days of the Texas Revolution, helping to provide food for soldiers fighting against British forces. In 1876, Midlothian was named one of thirteen towns in what is now Dallas County after it was chosen as the location for a new county seat. The town continued to grow and become an important center for trade and commerce until World War II when its economy shifted towards military service. After the war, Midlothian experienced rapid growth as a bedroom community for Dallas. However, since the late 1990s, there has been significant revitalization of the community with new development including a shopping mall, movie theater, hospital, and dozens of homes.
