The move reflected AF's new direction which had shifted from daylight precision bombing to close air support operations using bombers. In 1993, HQ USAFactivated its Historical Museum located adjacent to Laughlin AFB after more than 50 years of operation as a museum for USAF personnel and civilians. In 1965, Midlothian became an independent city and hassince experienced growth as a result of its status as a municipal jurisdiction.
