There have been reports of water contamination events dating back to 2009 near Barnett Shale wellhead on land leased from drillers by geologist Hal Lubin Properties LLC et al during routine operations related to exploration for gas resources underneath North Park Ranch School District property located adjacent to State Highway 183 just east of Interstate 35 between Lubbock and Amarillo . A preliminary report prepared for school district officials indicates that high levels of chemicals were found throughout drilling areas beneath north park ranch School District property where fracked shale was encountered during follow up prospectsearch operations; including drill sites within 1/4 mile radius of schools . This event led school district officials io immediately cease all future fracking operations within 1/4 mile radius of their properties .
