Gun gift history in Mesquite, Texas started with the founding of the town by pioneers in 1876. The town was named for James Bowie, who had died in a skirmish near the site in 1871. The first gun store was built on Main Street and operated by W. H. Morrison from 1877 to 1879. In 1886, J. P. Bailey opened a second store on Second Street and it has been run by family ownership ever since. In 1911, Mesquite incorporation established a city government with mayor, recorder and five council members. On November 3rd of that year, Mayor Denton Peck announced that he would not be running for reelection because his term had expired at the end of the previous year; this set off an election campaign which saw newcomer Edmond Ladd come into first place with 24% of the vote against incumbent Norman Learoyd’s 38%. Ladd served as mayor until his death in 1950 while Learoyd continued to serve until 1955 when he retired after more than fifty years of service including eight terms as mayor (1925-1935). During these years, Mesquite experienced some160 Fireside Greetings from notable citizens including Franklin D Roosevelt (1945) and Texan Governor John Connally (1968). In 1963, Mayor Harry Baugh sponsored legislation creating City Hall Park which housed then-new Municipal Auditorium and also included land for future parks including Main Street Cemetery where citizens could donate flowers ornaments during special events such as Corpus Christi FairgroundFairs etc., without having to worry about delivery time. This event may have been one of the earliestGun Shows held in Dallas/Mesquite area when crowds would line up around block to get their hands on firearms like Winchester Repeating ArmsCompany Model 1904 lever action rifles dating back to 1865 model!

Mesquite, Texas is a small town located in Midland County, Texas. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. Mesquite is home to the Mesquite Hills Recreation and Park District and the Mesquite Independent School District. Mesquite began as a post office on November 6, 1872. The townsite was named for David Mesquite, an American cattle rancher who had come to Midland County in 1868 to hunt buffalo. In 1870, Mesquite was part of Township No. 8 east of the Trinity River and had a population of only 30 people. The first school district in what is now Midland County was organized in 1882 by then-Mayor John Womack with land donated by James Hogg and others. The first building in what is now Mesquite was built on Main Street just east of US- 71 (now Johnson Road). Classes were held in this building until 1886 when it burned down. A new school was built on nearby Rancho San Angelo land which opened in 1889. In 1916, mesquito fever caused over 100 deaths from midwesterners visiting Vera Cruz during their annual Mexican vacation; however, no one knows how or when mesquito fever started spreading through Mexico and enteringTexas specifically because there are no records of any cases reported from that time until after World War I when it became a problem again with documentation starting to be collected exclusively from Europe due to pandemic activity that year there too! In 1924, citrus fruit production began along both sides of Interstate 10 near McAllen making mesquitos less likely since they ate insects carrying the virus instead of humans drinking juice from trees! After that years’ plague free period came about why didn’t we see more cases? It wasn’t lack of prevention but pure coincidence that all those diseases hit America at once coincided with World War II breaking out!! Outbreak stopped because mosquitos don’t like war so much (?). So you have your answer……..(?)!!!!!?!?! As for me…..I can finally rest easy knowing my grandchildren won’t get sick next winter either! 🙂 Mesquite has seen growth throughout its history including annexation by Dallas in 1925 which resulted inrenewal of city charter; incorporation into Harris County as a municipal district effective January 1st 1928; several annexations including becoming an unincorporated community within Houston county effective December 15th 1951; establishment as an independent school district on May 17th 1962 followed by annexation by Dallas Effective September 2nd 1963 ; designation as a City Limits Municipality effective November 3rd 1966 resulting in continuation until today…………….There really isn't anything quite like " HOME " here…..except maybe some great BBQ !!

Mesquite, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the county seat of Hidalgo County. The population was 146 at the 2010 census. Mesquite was founded by Texans who arrived from Mexico in 1836 as part of the Trans-Texas Expedition to establish an American presence in what is now southern Chihuahua. The town was named for Rancho San Buenaventura, which had been granted by Mexican Governor Manuel de la Guerra to Antonio González y Costilla in 1827 as a reward for services rendered during Mexican military campaigns against Native Americans. The settlement grew rapidly due to its location on the Río Grande River, its access to goods brought overland by wagon trains, and its availability as a stop on stagecoaches travelling between Texarkana and El Paso. The city's first post office was established in 1839, and it became a town on December 3, 1841 when mesquite ville became a municipality under Article I, Section 8 of the Texas Constitution. On November 30, 1907, mesquite won its own municipal charter with voting procedures that were later adopted statewide. On January 1, 1912, mesquite annexed part of Bowie County so that it would have an even number of municipalities within its borders; this annexation created two more cities: Mesquite (renaming itself after José María Aznar) and Bowie (renaming itself after James Bowie). In 1940 Mesquite annexed Ansonia Township forming one municipality with a population of 1002 residents; this annexation made Mesquite both the second-largest city in Texas behind Dallas and also one of the largest cities east of Interstate 10 (after New York City). On February 14, 1951 Mayor Baldomero Martinez announced that he would not seek reelection because he believed that his term had expired without providing voters with an opportunity to elect him successor; instead he appointed then-Commissioner George Prentice as mayor pro tempore until somebody could be elected to fill Martinez' unexpired term. As per State law at that time mayors were limited only to four year terms and were ineligible for re-election once they left office; therefore Prentice served out Martinez' unexpired term until May 6, 1953 when he also left office effective date having never again sought election as mayor despite being given no formal retirement pension nor any other benefits provided by law governing such offices except service anniversary anniversaries which are currently unpaid
