Mesquite is a city located in the U.S. state of Texas, on the Gulf of Mexico. Mesquite, population 26,000 at the 2010 census,[1] is considered an agricultural and ranching town with a history dating back to 1836. The area now comprising Mesquite was first settled by Anglo- Mexicans who worked Rancho Buena Vista de la Vaca, south of Mesquite on the present day Texas side of the Rio Grande River. The area around what is now Mesquite was once home to many mission churches and other Hispanic settlements before white settlement began in earnest in 1836. A year later, General Zachary Taylor ordered Major James Hogg to establish Fort Worth as a military post along the Texan border with Mexico. The fort was named for General James Hogg, who had earlier served as Military Governor of New Mexico under Mexican President Antonio López de Santa Anna and his brother Don José de Alvarado y Pavón y Cerrudo. By 1840 mesquite was being called "the greatest cattle market on earth".[2][3] Mesquite reached its peak as a cattle town during World War II when tens of thousands of American soldiers were stationed there for months on end during D-Day Normandy landings. However, following the war mesquite declined in importance until it regained some prominence after Jerry Lee Lewis's 1977 album hit "I Want To Hold Your Hand" which featured tracks about life in rural Texans towns like Mesquite.[4][5] In recent years Mesquite has made strides towards revitalization such as becoming one of two communities within Dallas County that have implemented new urban planning principles known as Land Use Agreement Neighborhoods (LUNAR).[6] This redevelopment has led to increased job opportunities for locals while also adding more cultural amenities such as art galleries and restaurants along with new housing developments which have brought much needed retail traffic to downtown areas like Main Street and Midtown Crossing.[7][8][9]

Mesquite is a small town in九州, Texas, United States. The population was 2,906 at the 2000 census. Mesquite is located on the east side of the Brazos River and is bordered by Manor to the south and east, Wallis to the north and west, and New Braunfels to the northwest. It has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cfa), with hot summers and cold winters. The first human settlement in what is now Mesquite was dateless but there are references to people living here as early as 3rd century BC. The town's name may have been derived from an Apache word meaning "place where trees grow." A post office called Mesquite was established in 1881, and remained in operation until it closed in 1958. The first school opened here in 1882; it became Mesquite High School in 1923. From its inception until 1954, Mesquite had one of the lowest per-capita incomes of any US city or town. However starting around that time- before zoning laws began regulating population density- mesquito populations exploded due to African American migration into what were then rural areas of Texas during this time period for work opportunities; many white Texans did not want black residents near their homes so they discouraged them from coming – thus helping create one of Texas' most vibrant black neighborhoods today thanks to integration efforts over that period at least In 1948, when Dallas County was created out of portions of adjacent Tarrant County, much drama ensued because minority groups didn’t get along well with each other while trying desperately to gain equal rights under new rules put into effect by Governor Price Daniel: whites were given voting rights while blacks were still limited to property ownership within certain limits; jobs were segregated too - though whites soon formed their own business communities outside downtown Dallas without giving up their voting power).
