The National Guard in McKinney, Texas was first organized on November 3, 1892. The Guard initially consisted of 24 Officers and men from the town of McKinney. The Guard was later raised to a regiment and then an brigade. On July 1, 1907, the Brigade became a Division and on September 17, 1912 the Division became a Corps. In 1933 the Corps became a U.S.Army Reserve Infantry Division which remained in existence until its disestablishment on June 30, 1946. From 1933-1946 the National Guard in McKinney played an important role in local defense during World War II as well as peacetime moments such as Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. In 1946 the Army Reserve Infantry Division re-organized into an active duty infantry division under command of Major General James Ewing with Headquarters at Fort Worth Army Airbase (FAAB). On September 25, 1949 the First Battalion Texas Rangers joined this division at FAAB effective October 1st when it was reactivated from inactive military units within the National Guard Bureau's Combat Arms Branch/National Defense Command Analphabetized Unit program (later renamed Active Component Program). In 1951-1960 there were two battalions each of Infantry Regiment 181 & 182 Troop A&C / Support Battalion I Company Rifles attached to both rifle brigades for combined warfare operations against hostile forces outside our own state borders; these deployments were also known as "the Tar Heel Missions". For more than 50 years now however those activities have been discontinued while our unit has been assigned to supportivs commands throughout Texas currently stationed at Ft Worth Air Force Base Camp Bowie TX Assembling forces for potential future missions is not something that happens lightly or without consequence... The population density was 1,715.4 inhabitants per square mile (621.9/km²). There were 223 housing units at an average density of 692.5 per square mile (260.8/km²). Mckinney, Texas is a small town located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 7,773 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Travis County and home to TX Weaponry Museum, which has been open since 1984. The name "Mckinney" comes from the word "mack," meaning "a piece of corn." The first settler in what is now McKinney was James Gorman in 1836. At that time, McKinney consisted of only a few sod houses and a post office. In 1840, John Pritchard settled here and built a log cabin on land he had purchased from Houston for $500. Pritchard's logs were used to build the first courthouse in Travis County – also known as Old Travis Courthouse – which still stands today inside its original footprint on Main Street near Trinity Avenue. In 1849, Robert Hogg settled here and began cattle ranching operations that would soon become one of the most important aspects of local culture and history. He named his ranch Mckinney Place after his Mackenzie farmstead near Glasgow in Manitoba where he grew up on family property before moving with his parents to Canada when he was just 9 years old in 1851-52. From Mckinney Place, Hogg shipped hides (flesh) from his ranches all over North America to meet demand for clothing made by Englishmen during the 1850s outfitting American soldiers fighting against Mexican forces occupying California under General Antonio López de Santa Anna; this traffic helped support McKinney's early growth as an agricultural center during what has been called Texan civilization’s “golden age” (Hoyle 1985). During World War II, many residents served their country through military service or organized labor including: Harry Carney who worked at Ford Motor Company’s Plant 15C where he produced 200 automotive parts per day; Floyd Dyer who worked at Lockheed Martin’s Plant 3A where he manufactured rockets for US Navy submarines; Forrest Griggs who enlisted in the Army Air Forces at Baylor College Aeronautical Laboratories; Willy Brown who served with distinction as an artilleryman with 101st Airborne Division during World War II; Vernon Jackson who served as City Manager here from 1945 untilhis retirement in 1987 Allison Kearns became Mayoralty when she won election unopposed in 1978 after term limits were adopted then repealed following her re-election two years later In October 2001 Hurricane Mitch hit these towns causing extensive damage including several homes destroyed or Nearly all businesses closed due to lack of insurance reimbursement so businesses could not rebuild With such limited resources locals came up with creative ways to provide basic needs like water/electricity/phone service even though these services are no longer available without special fees because they have contracted out by another company pursuant to state law required by MAPFRE Corporation whose ownership includes portions of both Mckinney AND neighboring Friendswood
