The Texas Air National Guard's 145th Airlift Wing, stationed at Mcallen AFB, is responsible for the deployment of more than 21,000 USAF personnel and aircraft to support military operations worldwide. This unit has a rich history that goes back to World War II. In 1942, the 137th Bombardment Group was activated at RAF Odiham in England as the first AmericanAAF Bomber Unit. The group flew combat missions against Nazi Germany from RAF Odiham until May 1945. After V-E Day in 1945, the 137th Bombardment Group was reassigned to United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) Ninth Air Force and converted into an operational bomber unit under command of First Lt. Gen James Doolittle. The wing flew strategic bombing missions against Japan from Guam and Saipan until August 1946 when it moved to Okinawa to take part in the Marianas Campaign which ended with Japan's surrender on September 2nd1945. On July 5th 1947, the 137th BG was redesignated as the 145th BW with elements at Kirtland AFB New Mexico; Groveland AFB Florida; Harlingen AB Texas; San Antonio AB Texas; and McConnell AFB Kansas City Missouri becoming one Consolidated Boeing B-29 Superfortress squadron flying training units during 1948-1949 then being sent overseas for duty in Korea starting Aug 1951 as Eighth Air Force's primary bombardment force striking major industrial targets using KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft

Hispanic immigrants had begun moving into Texas during the late 19th century as part of an expanding United States society. At first they were largely farmers or workers who took up residence in areas such as San Antonio or Austin because those cities were becoming increasingly overcrowded with native-born Americans and other Europeans. As time passed however, Hispanics began coming from all over Mexico City (now Mexico) looking for opportunity and better prospects than what they could find within their homeland. This migration led eventually to organized efforts among Mexican American organizations (EMACs) to gain access to education, work opportunities, political power, land ownership rights and more through legal channels available at that time.[1] While Spanish was the primary language spoken within EMACs throughout most of this period it was not unusual for members of these groups including Mexicans themselves – many of whom were illiterate –to speak English fluently as well[2]. This shift didn’t happen overnight though; over time various cultural symbols which identified Spanish speakers within EMACs started disappearing while English became more prevalant facto[3]. A good example would bedinero (a type of corrido music), which once identifying individuals belonging primarily to a particular region or class within Mexican American communities now tended instead towards bilingual CDs/MP3 players distributed throughout larger metropolitan areas across North America(4). Additionally there was also a noticeable trend away from formal religious ceremonies into civil functions - something that had been traditionally restricted exclusively to Spaniards[5]. This change wasn’t simply due to forces outsideMcAllen itself; rather it flowed outwards from EMACS institutions as people assimilated into new cultures both insideAnd outsideof their homes[6]. The United States Air Force deployed gift history in 1974. The first deployment was for the holiday season and it was to be a surprise for the families of service members. A gift certificate to a store near the air base would be given as the gift. It became known as "Gift History Day". The USAF began deploying gifts in 1978. They would send crates of items, such as clothes, books, electronics, and toys to different bases around the country. The idea was that service members could choose what they wanted and send back something else ornaments or candy. Gifts would also be sent abroad, such as when NATO members were being visited. In 1984, a new program called "Air Force One" began sending gifts directly to families of military personnel stationed overseas. The gifts were often items that had been donated by local businesses or individuals. Families received thank-you cards with pictures of their loved ones on them and sometimes cash donations too! In 2000, another program started called "Operation Smile" which involved sending presents directly to children living in war zones across Africa and Asia! Today, Gift History Day is more than just an annual tradition; it's an important way for the USAF to show its appreciation for our military service men and women who have put their lives on hold every day!
