Marshall is a small town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 304 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls–Marshall Municipal District. The town was first settled in 1876 by Marshall farmers who had come from Missouri and Arkansas. The name comes from General James K. Polk's marshal general status as a Ulysses S. Grant delegate to the Houston Convention in 1872, which led to his appointment as Marshal of Texas on November 1, 1872. The community grew rapidly due to its position near Wichita Falls and its access to railroad Tracks that allowed for rapid growth and development throughout the early 1900s. In 1907, Marshall became one of nineteen towns within Johnson County when it was organized from portions of Tyler and Archer counties. In 1955, Marshall received a water system expansion project funded by the US Department of Agriculture under Rural Electrification Administration (REA) guidelines that would provide potable water supplies for all residents within three years within a radius of . On July 26, 1957, President Dwight D Eisenhower announced plans for a larger project called "Marshall-Wichita Falls Water Project" which would include service area expansions up to . In 1959 and 1960 local businessmen donated land totaling in present-day Marshall so that Wichita Falls could be built as an enlarged city with broad arterial streets bisecting the center while bypassing much of rural areas east and west of downtown including parts of current Marshall Township along I-35 W., Poplar Creek Road off FM 620 E., Pawpaw Lane off FM 965 N., Ford Drive/Hutchinson Boulevard between US 287 N/I-35 W., Kyle Road between US 287 N/I-35 W./ FM 620 E./Pawpaw Lane beyond I-635 S./US 287 N/. The Town Poor House had been built prior to this time on Barton Springs Rd just east of US 287 N/FM 620 E,. During construction two emergency rooms were added; both survive today as branch offices for Baylor University Medical Center located adjacent to the municipal district library across I-635S from original town square on SW corner lot now occupied by First Baptist Church (built 1930). By 1963 more than 800 people living in Marshalls main commercial districts served through over fifty public agencies servicing nearly 6500 citizens via publicly owned water systems with available truck rides or private delivery service

Marshall, Texas is a small town located in east-central Texas. It is the county seat of Marshall County and was founded on December 12, 1881. The town was named for General James W. Marshall, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as the United States Territories Marshal for southern Texas. The first post office in Marshall was established on January 6, 1892. The towns of Fort Worth and Arlington Heights were founded around the same time as Marshall but they did not take their name from the nearby city of Fort Worth. In 1903, Arlington Heights changed its name to Arlington after becoming one of two districts in Dallas County that were merged into the city of Dallas. By 1907, all but 2 percent of Marshalls population lived within limits of Dallas City Limits while only about 10 percent lived within what are now rural areas of eastern Marshall County. In 1930, EastMarshall Consolidated School District No. 3 was formed from portions of Dallas City Limits southward to Tyler and eastward to Commerce Street with an enrollment exceeding 550 students in grades 1 through 8; this brought about a change in school boundaries which closed most schools serving less than 5 hundred pupils within their original boundaries while expanding those serving more than 500 pupils by up to 100 acres (40 hectares). That year also saw the establishment of Midland Independent School District No. 9 which contained much of rural northeastern Marshall County including parts now included within ranching or agriculturaldistricts administered by McKinney ISD
