According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2 km²), all of it land. Mansfield's history began with three log cabins that were built in 1871 by John T. Mansfield Sr., an early settler in Medina County. In 1902, John T. Mansfield Jr., founded the Mansfield Glass Works which still operates as a family-owned business today. In 1925, the original post office was renamed to honor Mr. Mansfield and his wife Gertrude Nunnally Biddleman both contributed many years to the town's growth and development including serving as mayor from 1951-1957 and 1959-1963 while also being elected as a Democrat to the Texas House of Representatives from Medina County where she served for 31 years until her death in 2003; upon her death she was also honored with a state statute designation as “The First Lady of Texas” In recent decades, much progress has been made within the community resulting in numerous educational opportunities available for residents such as local high school students who attend Mesquite High School or nearby Fort Worth High School; two professional sports teams – The Mavericks (a minor league baseball team) and The Cotton Bowl Club (a women's professional basketball team) – play their home games at nearby American Airlines Center; several restaurants provide quality food options for residents including Denny’s Drive-in & Café, White Castle Cafe & Grill and Longhorn Steakhouse; locally owned businesses have popped up throughout town such as One Stop Green Grocery store which provides local produce/fruits/veggies/horables/, ice cream treats from City Market Dairy & Yogurt Parlor etc.; there are now several private businesses that have opened up since last annexation along US 75 just south of town limits making life much more convenient for citizens

Uptown Mansfield is one side of US-69 and Old Hickory Boulevard runs along its southern border; this border forms part of what used to be Medina County's eastern boundary before it was split between MansFIELD and Irving in 2000.
