Mansfield is home to one of the largest shopping malls in the area, The Mall of America, which opened its doors in 1987. The first settler in Mansfield was James A. Cooley who arrived circa 1836. From 1837-1845, John Pemberton platted and sold land around what is now Mansfield. In 1846, David Hand moved from Illinois to start a cotton plantation near what would become Mansfield. By 1870, there were over 100 people living in Mansfield and it had a post office with ZIP code 76501. In 1880, Charles Ladd started a flour mill that would remain active until 1922. In 1907, George Davenport donated land for an agricultural college which became Baylor University and has since been one of Texas' most proud universities. Today's Baylor School of Medicine also originated from this donation by George Davenport.

In 1893, Swiss caffeine importers founded La Caffeineeère based in Bern, Switzerland as the first commercial café chain specializing in espresso drinks made from whole bean Turkish or Ethiopian coffees imported direct from those countries. At its peak La Caffeineeère operated over seventy outlets throughout Europe and North America including eleven locations on Fifth Avenue in New York City! Today La Caffeineeère continues as one of Switzerland’s leading café chains with more than two hundred stores worldwide!

Mansfield is a town in Humble County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2000 census. The name "Mansfield" comes from Mansfield Township in 1881. In 1907, the town was renamed to honor Edwin Ladd, who had given $10,000 to the townsite's development. The first inhabitants of Mansfield were members of the Wichita and Kiowa tribes. They camped around what is now Mansfield on high grounds overlooking present-day downtown when they first arrived in 1827. A courthouse and jail were built in 1829 and remain standing today as part of the town square. A post office was established at Mansfield in 1868, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1914. In 1907, the name change came about due to an election where residents voted to rename their town after Edwin Ladd for his donation of 10 thousand dollars (). The early days of Mansfield were difficult due to heavy reliance on agriculture which didn't take off until oil became available and prices went up significantly. However, during World War II both local industries ( munitions manufacturing and shipbuilding) turned out thousands of military supplies for use by the US military forces overseas; this led to an increase in commerce within Mansfield as well as its growth rate continuing into subsequent decades while still relying heavily on agriculture production
