The beans that are now being roasted at this facility were originally ground and harvested in nearby Arlington, Texas. The first roasters at this location were J.B. Flakes and Johnnie's Coffee. In 1922, J.B.'s son-in-law, Harry Waddell, opened his own business called Harry Waddell's Coffee & Roastery in Mansfield. This store was responsible for selling and grinding all of the coffee used at the original Java Bean Roastery located in Arlington Heights, Illinois from which most of the current fresh roasted beans come from today. The Java Bean Roastery was closed down in 1984 but its legacy continues to be felt today as part of Mansfield's history! Today, The Java Bean House is still managed by Harry Waddell who also keep an open mind when it comes to experimentation with new roast techniques and flavors!
