Lumberton is a small town located in Tarrant County, Texas, in the southwestern corner of the state. The population was 9,567 at the 2010 census. Lumberton is part of the Fort Worth- Arlington metropolitan area. Lumberton was founded in 1876 by John Pemberton and his family. It became an important center for timber production during the late 19th century and early 20th century. In recent years, Lumberton has become a popular tourist destination due to its picturesque streets and well-preserved buildings. The first white settlers in what is now Tarrant County arrived in 1836, when Capt. James Bowie and his party came down from Texas’ panhandle region to established what would become Lumberton on a bend in the Trinity River. At that time, local chiefs controlled much of what is now Tarrant County; logging was not then a common practice among these groups. John Pemberton set up shop hereabouts in 1876 as a sawmill owner and lumber dealer with his brother Lewis Pemberton Sr., who also ran one of Tarrant County’s two cotton ginners (the other being Fort Worth). By 1903, John had retired from business operations but continued to reside hereabouts until his death some years later at age 1012 days old – one day shy of 100 years old! He bequeathed this tiny community to his son-in-law Harry Vickers Vickers (1865-1946) upon his death in 1910; Harry moved into residence there circa 1925 after purchasing all interest therein from Waddell Coleman (1856-1920), who had operated it since its founding! The present day name “Lumberton” originated with Harry Vickers Vickers himself: he bestowed it upon the community as an expression of appreciation for all that he had experienced hereabouts over so many years – including stints working as postmaster, storekeeper/manager/foreman, teacher/administrator and driver for various lumber companies which have populated this area during those times! In 1927 HVV donated land comprising approximately today’s downtown block bounded by Main Street on the north (west side only), Springdale Road on the east (east side only), Gadsden Avenue on the south (southwest side only), and Haskell Avenue on top thereof to make way for new school construction adjacent thereto…just prior to commencement of classes regular attenders were already parking along Springdale Road before doors opened !! ! Some residents will tell you that they remember going into school each morning across Haskell Ave from Gadsden because back then there were no streetlights or headlights anywhere near where we park today !! !! After World War II ended most residents left space within their neighborhoods for single family dwellings; however several families remain situatd just southeast of downtown core still using their original home sites…..reminder: homes built before 1954 are exempt from lot zoning changes currently taking place around them!! lutheran church situated northeast corner Court House Square

The town rapidly grew, and soon became a major shipping and transportation center for the surrounding region. By 1850, Lumberton had 2,000 residents and was one of the most important towns in Texas. During the American Civil War, Lumberton fought for Confederate States of America (CSA) against the United States government. On November 11th 1861, Union forces attacked Lumberton during the Battle of Braxton Mill which resulted in a successful Union victory. After the battle, many residents fled to other towns in search of safety. However, most of Lumberton's population remained behind to help defend their town from future attacks. In 1865, Lumberton was renamed Fort Worth after General Sam Houston's decision to rename all U.S. military posts after Heroes of Haltom County (including Braxton Mill). In 1875, Lumberton replaced Fort Worth as the capital city of Texas due to its growing population and importance within state government.
