The history of the Army in Lumberton began with a small group of men who decided to form an organization to support the state’s military efforts. On November 11, 1861, these individuals convened at the old Masonic temple and organized themselves into a unit called Company A. The company was soon renamed Battalion A and then Regiment A and finally army corps A. During the Civil War, Lumberton played a major role in the defense of Texas. In 1862, Battalion A was assigned to protect Mission San Fernando de Asís from Confederate attack. The following year they were again called upon to provide security for Fort Sam Houston. This time they were joined by other companies in Regiment A and brigade A under command of General George Buell. In 1865, Battalion C was raised as an infantry regiment in Lumberton and served throughout the war. In 1868 Colonel John Hogg organized Company D which became famous for its victory at Pea Ridge against Union forces under Major General James Longstreet. After the war ended, Lumberton saw its first influx of troops when Governor John Alston ordered them deployed to help suppress a civil insurrection in Galveston Island that began on December 13th, 1868. Lumberton also hosted large-scale celebrations during various occasions such as Independence Day (July 4th), Texan Centennial (1891), World’s Fair (1939), and Christmas (1912). These events generated significant amounts of revenue for the town which helped subsidize its infrastructure needs through purchasing goods from surrounding counties until 1923 when statehood provided those benefits fully unto itself. Today,Army Corps barracks are located within town limits while nearby Fort Hood provides Soldier housing options as well as basic training ranges used by both active duty soldiers and reserve components calloused from combat tours abroad or dealing with natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes respectively but still required by law to serve our nation on honorable terms!

The Lumberton Army National Guard Armory was built in 1915 and became the Armament Training Center (ATC) in 1951. The ATC is now known as the Texas Army National Guard Academy. In 1941, the Lumberton Armory was designated the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the First Battalion, 103rd Infantry Regiment. On May 11, 1959, The first Brigade Combat Team (BCT) of The Texas Army National Guard was activated at Lumberton Armory. In 1969, brigade BCTs were redesignated brigades and in 1999 brigade BCTs were re-designated divisions. On July 1st, 2009 USArmy Garrison Fort Worth authorized use of Lumberton Armory for storage and exhibition purposes only until such time that a new Drill Hall/Recreation Center can be constructed at Fort Worth's Parkland Arsenal site which will house all USArmy troops stationed in Southern Texas including their dependents.
Lumberton is a city in Hardee County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Lumberton was founded as a post office in 1857 and became a city on July 1, 1907. The current mayor is John Hynes.

Lumberton was a small town in Texas until the early 1800s. It was located on the bank of the Brazos River, about 25 miles west of Austin. The town was first settled by Anglo-Saxon settlers in 1814. Lumberton grew rapidly due to its location and natural resources. In 1848, the Mexican War began and Lumberton became an important battleground between American and Mexican forces. In 1861, when Confederate forces invaded Texas, Lumberton sided with the Confederacy. After the war ended, Lumberton declined to rejoin America and reverted to Mexican rule. The town's decline continued until it was abandoned in 1923. Today, only a few remains of the original buildings remain: a Methodist church (1888), a school (1912), and a post office (1923).
Lumberton was founded by John L. Timberlake in 1878. The town was originally named "Albuquerque" after Albuquerque, New Mexico, but it was changed to its current name in honor of General James H. Garfield. The first store in Lumberton opened in 1879 and the first post office was established in 1880. In 1902, Lumberton became a municipality and the first city within Texas when it incorporated as a separate entity from Tomball County. As a municipality, Lumberton maintained its own police department and fire service while also sharing services with Tomball County. In 1907, Lumberton annexed part of Tomball County and became an even larger municipality with a population of over 100,000 people. In 1930, the City of Lumberton merged with Tomball County to form the present-day Houston-Tomball metropolitan area which had a population of over 200,000 people by 2000. Today, Lumberton is one of the most vibrant and economically thriving cities in Texas with multiple businesses including banks, health care companies and other major retailers
