From Lubbock, Texas, the air force has been deploying gifts to its citizens and allies for many years. In 1917, a group of civilians in Lubbock set up a truck stop in order to trade goods with the military. From this small business, the air force grew over time and currently provides an assortment of services to its citizens and partners throughout Texas. However, since then Manufacturing jobs have been scarce and many residents have left for better opportunities elsewhere in North America or outside of Texas altogether. Today much of Lubbock's economy revolves around ranching, especially cattle farming; however there are also significant sectors including health care services and information technology within the city's cultural landscape. In addition to its downtown core, which contains several art galleries, museums and other attractions, Lubbocks outskirts include smaller villages such as Haskell Junction and Round Rock Ranch where farmers sell their products directly to consumers or through larger stores nearby
