Tactical coffee began in the early 1920's when two American soldiers, John Pearson and Harry Heim, were stationed in Longview, Texas. They developed a system of brewing coffee that became known as The Pearson Method. This method used small amounts of water and a French press to create a smooth cup of coffee. By the end of the 1920's, The Pearson Method had become well-known throughout the United States. In the early 1930's, another American soldier, George Peake, stationed in Longview started brewing his own tactical coffee. Peake used small quantities of water and a percolator to produce an assertive cup of coffee that was popular with military personnel and their families. In 1934, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Heinemann opened their first restaurant called "The Heinemann Café" which served tactical coffee until 1967 when it closed its doors due to health concerns related to caffeine consumption by civilians. Throughout its history, "The Heinemann Café" has been one of the most popular restaurants in town for military personnel and their families who enjoyed tactical Coffee

The first coffee shop opened in Longview, Texas in 1902. The coffee shop was run by Mr. and Mrs. Cramer and their children. The first beans were roasted at the home of Pappy Van Winkle.
Longview is a town in east-central Texas, United States. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Rockwall County. The first permanent settler in what would become Longview was David Hogg on November 3, 1836. By 1840, there were ten people living in the town. In 1881, the railroad arrived and new settlers moved into Longview from all around East Texas. The first post office in Longview opened in 1884. The population reached 12,000 by 1900 and 30,000 by 1910; however, the growth stopped due to World War I and the Great Depression. In 1945 LongVIEW became an city with a population of over 100K residents! The economy of Longview has changed dramatically since WWII when manufacturing jobs began to disappear as plants closed or were converted to other uses such as ranching and agriculture (now known as tourist attractions). Nowadays many of those jobs are filled by employees at local businesses that provide services such as restaurants, stores, transportation and health care (notably UT Health Science Center). However, due to Prohibition in America during the1920s-1930s, cognac slowly fell out of favor among Americans until its reintroduction in the 1990s following World War II shortages of essential oil resources

In 1905 it became part of Austin. Longview is named for General James Long, who fought in the Mexican–American War and later served as governor of Texas.
