Navy deployments have a long and proud history in the Longview community. The Navy has presence both onshore and offshore in Longview, with ships and personnel stationed here for more than 60 years. The first naval deployment in Longview was in 1922 when USS Constitution sailed from Galveston to Brownsville, Texas to provide support for the Mexican Revolution. In 1951, USS John C. Stennis sailed into port to participate in Operation Neptune’s Spear, which was part of the Korean War. Since its inception the Navy has deployed vessels here regularly, including submarines ( mistrust during the Cold War) and landing craft. In 1987 USS Gerald R. Ford anchored at anchor off shore after delivering humanitarian supplies to Nicaraguan refugees; this was only the third time a US navy vessel had ever visited Longview. However, annexation by Austin in 1968 reversed this trend and since then LongView has seen sustained economic growth that has brought much promise for its future – including growing industry such as energy production and research associated with energy provider ExxonMobil The history of Longview begins with James A Gilmore who arrived in 1877 from Ireland after traveling through what is now Missouri and Kansas City area looking for land grants that would provide him with a farmable acreage near Wichita Falls on the Brazos River where he could build his rancho Viejo de Aguayo which today still stands on 80 acres (32 hectares) southeast of downtown Longview across from US Highway 183/State Highway 3 In 1905, Gilmore's company developed into an oil business exporting gasoline from Refinery No 2 located adjacent to present day Interstate 35W southbound just south of I-35 exit 506 In 1928 Rev J Gailman purchased property northeast corner Court House Rd & Elm St from Mrs H Frankfort & erected garage & home #5 used since 1915 . This property later became known as “Gailman’s Grove” which lies off Elm St W between Court House Rd & Elm St NW

Longview is a small town located in the State of Texas, on the banks of the Sabine River. The population was 9,717 as of 2010. Longview began as a small farming community established by settlers in 1876. It grew to be an agricultural center and manufacturing center during the late 19th century and early 20th century. In recent years, Longview has become a popular tourist destination for its natural beauty and historical significance. The first residents of Longview were Dutch immigrants who settled there in 1876. By 1890, English-speaking Texans had arrived and founded a school and post office at the site. A railroads station was also built here in 1892; it served local farmers until 1915 when it became part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Railway system. In 1925, Longview voters passed a referendum ratifying incorporation as a city. The citizens of Longview quickly developed an economy based on agriculture, businesses that manufactured goods such as shoes, firearms, munitions and other items related to war efforts or military service (such as ammunition stores), tourism ( stimulated by events such as World War I centenary celebrations) and retail trade (the largest concentration being within two miles of downtown). In 1949, Mayor Clyde Tittlemanand City Councilor Willis Fenton designated portions of town east of Interstate 10 as an open-air recreation area known municipally as “The Park” which included several baseball diamonds sporting Pee Wee Reese Stadium dimensions measuring approximately 100 feet long by 50 feet wide with grandstands measuring up to 125 feet tall; this park would remain open to the public until dated 1998 when signage indicated it no longer operated under state government jurisdiction due to budget cuts curtailed its use from year-to-year; however portions still exist today used for private events only sports stadiums have been demolished leaving green spaces surrounding them which are now home to residences In 1984 Texas Civil Rights Commission hearing attorney Mrsgrace Bicknell testified about her experience working with then Commerce Commissioner Royce Lamberton seeking anti discrimination laws against stores JB Hiatt General Store & Restaurant which refused service negroes because they were members of their immediate family . Afternoon demonstration led by activist Mrsgrace Bicknell outside JB Hiatt store with signs reading "We want jobs not segregation" On July 15th Constable William Easley responded using pepper spray after protesters threw eggs at him while he patrolled near restaurant
Longview, Texas was founded in 1836 by George Long. The town name comes from the Kiowa word "longa" meaning "broad." In 1862, Longview was purchased by the United States government for a military reservation. After the Union victory at the Battle of Antietam in September 1862, Longview became part of the newly created West Texas Territory. On November 15, 1880, Longview was made a city and renamed after Ulysses S. Grant who had been president during the American Civil War.
