Longview is a town in Waller County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,786 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The land around Longview was first settled by European Americans in the late 1800s. In 1881, John Waco founded Waco and named it for his brother James Long (1784-1847). In 1902, General Grant Post moved his army from Fort Worth to Longview after crossing the Red River into Arkansas. After being routed by Confederate forces at Battles of Groveland and Fair Oaks in November 1862, Union troops marched through Longview on their way back to Fort Worth. On October 10th 1865, Union Majors James McPherson and William Hance were killed near present-day Longview when they were leading an attack against Confederate cavalry under John Bivins (1812-1868). In 1930, the post office at Longview was renamed Brownsville due to its location within Hudspeth County. The name change was reverted back to Brownsville in 1966 when Hudspeth County became Waller County. I n 1880 a group of settlers came from Illinois led by George Crockett(1786-1860), one of America's most famous Native American leaders during this time period

He founded an agricultural society in 1833 and built the first store on Third Avenue in 1835. In 1888, Jules Ahern opened the first grocery store west of Houston at Fourth Street and Loop 610 East; it remains one of Longview's most popular businesses today. Over time, other small retailers have joined Ahern's business: Waffle House (1996), Dunkin' Donuts (2002), Chili's (2008), BBQ King (2009) and Pizza Hut (2012). In 1954, Longview merged with nearby Humble to form Humble–Longview municipality. The merger provided for increased access to education and commerce for both towns; LongVIEW shopping mall opened its doors that same year as well as new housing developments such as Oaks Place and Commerce Park North. After years of growth and development, Humble annexation by Austin made long-sought-after annexation possible, but it ultimately failed due to lack of voter support; however, all municipalities within Travis County now fall under Austin city jurisdiction except for Humble itself which falls under Round Rock city government control instead In recent years much focus has been placed on revitalizing downtown cores across both towns while also focusing on ecofriendly initiatives such as planting more trees or adding more lighting along Broadway Boulevard
Longhorn cattle were the original man-eating animals in Texas. The Longhorns were brought to the Lone Star State by Mexican immigrants in the early 1800s. The cattle became a mainstay on the Texas Plains and in East Texas, where they roamed free and ate whatever they pleased. In 1846, during the Mexican-American War, General Santa Anna ordered all of Texas’ native bullocks to be slaughtered as part of an effort to reduce Mexico’s food supplies. Only 1,500 Longhorns survived the slaughter and were taken back to Mexico for further breeding.
