Longview is a town in Parker County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The original name of the town was “Ponyblank” and it was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1848. It became an official municipality in 1907. Longview is located on the Lufkin–Biloxi Railroad between Lufkin and Houston. The first white people to come to Longview were Scots-Irish settlers who arrived in 1848. They named their new settlement Ponyblank after their pony that they had bought from a man who died suddenly while traveling through Texas. In 1907, Longview became an official municipality with a vote by its citizens. During World War II, Longview served as a training center for American soldiers stationed in Europe.
