In the early 1800s, Live Oak was a small town in eastern Texas. It was known for its outlaws and law enforcement officials, and the citizens of Live Oak put up with many challenges because they depended on the good graces of their police officers. One of the most famous policemen in Live Oak's history was Captain John Hogg. He was born in 1807 in what is now Scotland County, Texas. After serving as a trooper in Mexican War fighting against Mexico, Captain Hogg started working for the Austin Police Department in 1835. In 1840 he married Sarah Jane infant daughter of James Foardel and she became the wife of Captain William J. Peebles (1810-1872). Captain Hogg served as Chief Constable from 1851 to 1861 when he resigned due to health problems. He died at age 79 years old on December 1st, 1872 at his home near live oak creek where he had lived since childhood. His body is interred at Arlington Cemetery in Arlington Heights, Illinois. After captain John hogg's death, lieutenant colonel James Witherspoon took over his job as captain until 1850 when he retired due to ill health Major Ambrose Gillett assumed command after Gillett retirement until 1865 when he also retired due to health problems; then lieutenant Colonel George Washington Pickett took command until 1870 whenPickett resigned after being elected governor of Texas instead Then Lieutenant Colonel Charles Atey succeeded him until 1880 which ended with Lieutenant Colonel George Patton taking command until 1886 when Patton resigned after losing an election bid for sheriff

Live Oak is a city located in the U.S. state of Texas, on the east side of the Rio Grande River. The population was 8,451 at the 2010 census. The name " Live Oak" comes from a nearby oak tree that grew so large it blocked the natural flow of water for crops and town development. It is said that when General Sam Houston saw this large tree he called out " Live Oaks you'll block my way!" The slogan for Live Oak began as an advertising campaign to promote its growth: "A City by the River – Where You can Believe." The first settlers in Live Oak were farmers who arrived in 1837 to help start what would become one of Texas's most important cattle ranches. In 1840, John Wesley Powell and his party explored the area which would later become part of Dallas while exploring their route to California. They named their discovery Atchison, Kansas after their destination but live oak trees growing there discouraged them from continuing their journey and they abandoned plans to explore further south. In 1851, James Fenton opened up a small hotel near downtown where he sold goods such as clothing, saddles and harnesses along with liquors until 1861 when he closed his business because Confederate troops burned down his building during the Civil War. In 1865, John Pemberton founded Pemberton Oil Company with oil rights granted from Mexico following its acquisition by United States interests during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). This made Live Oak one of Odessa's earliest industrial communities due to its proximity to Mexico City and its ability to produce oil products exported throughout North America at affordable prices for American consumers. In 1870–71, Lillie Brougham organized a Ladies' Auxiliary Library which became one of Austin's most popular attractions drawing women from all over Austin forreading programs (and also lending books) before classes commenced each day at 10 A.M.. After two decades support services including music lessons (the first public school in Austin was established in 1893), snacks available late into evening hours through an early morning checkout service were provided by Mrs Brougham herself; finally library construction began on October 12th 1895 with installation complete within four days thanks largely to fundraising efforts led by Mrs Brougham’s husband Dr Charles Peake Brougham IV... With a membership strength approaching 5500 women soon enough Ladies’ Auxiliary Library was able begin providing even more extensive programming than ever before including talks about current topics such as social issues (eugenics being discussed then), drama readings etc., dances - both ballroom and country dance styles; club meetings; book signings; special events like Mothers Day Tea Parties or Flower Shows etc., overnight stays for visitors related functions like carriages drawn by local horses pulling wagons full of refreshments inside/outside lecture halls... By 1912 Ladies’ Auxiliary Library had accomplished many goals including becoming “theMotherLodeLibraryofAustin”; events calendar now features 175 different types events plus nearly 100 lectures/seminars every month!
