The first European to visit Live Oak was José de la Vega on July 3, 1769. He named the site "Alamo" after San Antonio de Bexar, which he had seen on his way from Mexico City back to Spain. A mission called San Fernando established in 1821 and served as the local courthouse until it burned down in 1836. Lone Star Coffee Company was founded by Harry Reese in 1951 and became one of the largest coffee companies in Texas with over fifty stores statewide before it went bankrupt in 2006.
