The Live Oak Marina has been hosting Marine Corps Parties since the early ‘80s. The parties are usually a weekend getaway for Marines and their families, but sometimes they’re longer-term events that culminate in a dinner or dance night at the marina.
Live Oak, Texas is a census-designated place in Eastland County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,971 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Live Oak is located on FM 1960 just east of I-10 and south of US 75. The name "Live Oak" comes from an ancient live oak tree that grew near where the community now stands in 1892. A post office called Live Oak was established in 1902, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1961. The first settlers to Live Oak were farmers who came overland from Louisiana during the late 1800s. They named their new community for an old live oak tree which stood tall and proud on their property. The first white residents of LiveOak were Jens Wehmeyer and his wife Anna (née Kapp) who arrived in 1901 and started to farm land around what is now town square. By 1907 they had two children: Roy and Peggy (Maynard). In 1912 Jens married Lillie Dyer who also arrived from Louisiana with him. The couple farmed for a few years before starting a grocery store downtown which soon became successful enough to support another family addition: Willard Bakker & Sons grocery store (now known as Kroger) opened its doors on November 12th 1914 with 10 employees including Mrs Kapp as owner/manager./In 1929 Lillie’s father-in-law Stanisław “Papa” Kapp died suddenly leaving his widow with 3 young children to take care of; however Lillie continued to run her business until her death in 1984 making her one of only 2 females ever registered as proprietor/manager/owner or manager(s) of a Kroger store within city limits prior to 1984! Papa had been instrumental early on both inside and outside the store helping make it happen! The other femaleoperator at this time was Mrs Johnnie Byrd whose husband owned several stores within city limits along I-635 South during this same time period! And so it went for many years until 1984 when Lillie's younger sister Ruthanna took over running operations out of the Store #220 adjacent to current day Smith Street!!! Ruthanna would continue running things thruout much later becoming Manager Emeritus!! And so we have today….. 4 generations operating our famous KrogerStore having Main StreetAddress:#220 SmithStreet existing long past any changes made by either clan!!!!!!!!!

In 1861, Live Oak became the county seat of Richland County; it remained so until 1901. In 1911, Live Oak incorporated as a city; it ceased to exist in 1932 when its population reached 1,000 only to resume full existence as a city again in 1949. LiveOak has experienced steady growth since then: its population increased by 161 percent from 1999 to 2007, and by 244 percent from 1987 to 1997.
