The United States Air Force (USAF) deployed gift history in Live Oak, Texas on December 4, 1941. The event was part of the President's Christmas present to the nation. At 6:00 p.m., all uniformed and civilian personnel of the USAF were assembled at the Municipal Airport for a presentation by Major General James Doolittle, commander of First Tactical Wing, Southwest Pacific Area. The purpose of this presentation was to introduce the USAF members to an important holiday tradition that had originated with America's adversaries - Japan. The Japanese people had marked New Year's Day as "Awa Nadeshiko" or "New Year's Eve." On December 1st, 1939, Japan announced that it would begin unrestricted operations in China and South Korea. To provide defense against these anticipated hostilities, Japan ordered its military forces to prepare for war by requisitioning materiel and POWs from countries such as the U.S., Great Britain and Canada. In response to this challenge, Washington began planning what would become known as Operation Lightning Bolt - a strategic airlift operation that would bring American supplies into Allied areas during World War II. This campaign was code-named "Bloody Sunday" because two Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bombers were lost due to mechanical problems on December 15th 1942 while en route from Hawaiito Australia; thus beginning America's involvement in World War II. With more than seventy thousand Americans serving in RAF squadrons Overseas Expeditionary Force (OEF), along with numerous RAF pilots who flew behind enemy lines during World War II, Gift History played an ever-important role in supporting our armed forces overseas throughout the conflict – both through providing unique opportunities for storytelling and ceremonial functions ashore as well as over land at home station airports across North America.

Live Oak, Texas is a small town located in the Edwards Plateau region of the Lone Star State. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. Live Oak is known for its oak trees and live oaks, which are endemic to this area. The town was named after the tree that grows in its center. The first people to live in what is now Live Oak were probably farmers who came down from the Trans-Pecos area around 1845. By 1870, there were 10 families living in what is now Live Oak. In 1881, a post office was established here and by 1890, there were 30 residents. In 1911, an oil well was drilled in what is now Live Oak and production began soon thereafter. The boom times for oil drilling caused many businesses to open up in Live Oak and it became one of the most commercial towns in Texas at that time. In 1923, when Interstate 40 was built through central Texas, access to oil resources made Live Oak an even moreimportant community with dozens of businesses catering to motorists on both sides of I-40. During World War II, many soldiers stationed here went off to fight overseas and some of them left behind their homesickness food shortages that continued into 1945 when they returned home. After World War II ended, business slowly died down due largely to technological advancements such as air conditioning which had become prevalent since then and also easier transportation options available outside of TX (eastern US). The present day name of Live Oak comes from a letter written by Isaac Asimov to his friend Eben Upton during World War II: "I am writing you about an object I have just seen very near my house-a live oak!...It is certainly one of those beautiful things which make American life so colorful."
