Lewisville is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name Lewisville comes from pioneer James Lewis who built a cabin there in 1827. He named it for his native county of Cumberland, North Carolina. The town site was developed by settlers in the early 1800s as a small farming community near Fort Worth. A sawmill and grist mill were constructed there in 1839, and a post office was established in 1841. The first school building was erected here in 1846. By 1860, Lewisville had become an important railroad center with its own station and several businesses including flour mills, cotton ginners, saddlers,ivery services and lumberyards. In 1865 the present downtown core of Lewisville was laid out when the Dallas-Fort Worth Railroad extended its line through the town to connect with other lines north of Fort Worth.
