Lewisville is a town in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. Lewisville's namesake is James Lewis, who donated land to the town in 1875. The first post office was established in Lewisville on October 15, 1876. It was renamed Cedar Rapids in 1907. The current name of Lewisville comes from James Waggoner Lewis, who donated $10 to the town in 1880. The town began as a small Settlement near what is now known as Cedar Rapids and soon developed into a small farming community with a few hundred residents. In 1881, the townsfolk voted to change their name to Lewisville after James Waggoner Lewis, who had contributed $10 towards its establishment. At that time, the town contained only two buildings: A store and a schoolhouse were built around this time. In 1902-1903, the townsfolk erected a new school building which has served as both local and state government offices ever since. Additionally, during this time period (1881-1902), several businesses were founded within the boundaries of present-day Lewisville including an grocery store and bank/ivery service shop. These businesses continue to operate today and contribute significantly to its economic stability today. In 1916-1920*, World War I* disruptions caused some Significant changes within Medina County – specifically withinLewisville*. During these years† much of what we know about local history came about due to interviews with former residents or descendants of those that lived through it.* Unfortunately due to lack of archival materials from these times*, it’s not possible for us directlyto explore all of the interesting aspects surrounding WWI* & subsequent growth within our community* however many interesting stories can be gleaned from oral histories collected over time& archived at various locations throughout Medina County!
