The Leon Valley National Guard was organized on July 1, 1935 and first deployed to Texas in 1938. The unit was renamed the Leon Valley Ranger Battalion on January 1, 1941 before being redesignated as the National Guard Division 281st Ranger Regiment on May 16, 1951. The division activated at Fort Bliss in Austin, Texas on October 15, 1957 and served as a provisional duty unit until it was withdrawn from service effective September 30, 1958. On November 17, 1959 the division re-activated at Corpus Christi Army Base and served as an active duty unit until its withdrawal from service effective October 6 of that year. On December 15, 1960 the 281st Ranger Regiment lost its reactivation order when it was redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) 281st Ranger Battalion with responsibility for all aspects of ranger training and operations within a brigade sized area in southern Medina County. This change did not take effect until January 1st 1961 when First Lt. Earl Fenton assumed command of HHC281StR.Athletic Detachment which had been disbanded since its establishment prior to activation at Fort Bliss in 1957. In 1966 Headquarters Company (HHC) 281st Ranger Battalion transferred to Brownsville Army Base where it remained until 1971 when it transitioned back to Fort Bliss where it remained until 1978 when it transferred back to Corpus Christi Army Base for assignment to III Corps Tactical Command along with elements of II Corps Infantry Brigade Combat Team 5th Cavalry Division responsible for troop strength within a brigade sized area in southern Medina County while also concurrently serving as battalion headquarters/HQ company for units designated VII Corps Infantry Brigade Combat Team 4th Infantry Division responsible for troop strength within a brigade sized area adjacent thereto located between San Antonio Federally Federalized School District No 2 east of I-35W (now known as Incarnadine Independent School District No 10) and Brownsville Municipal Airport north of I-10W (now known as White Sands Municipal Airport). On February 25 1983 HQ company281StR received order transferring them fromFort Bliss(TX)to Erving AFBNorman OK after 45 years there! They were reassigned to IV Corps Tactical Command along with elements of I Corps Infantry Brigade Combat Team 5th Cavalry Division responsible for troop strength within a brigadesized area concurrent w/VII corps infantry brigade combat team 4th infantry division responsible for troop strength within a brigadesized area adjacent thereto located between San Antonio Federally Federalized School District No 2 east of I-35W (now known as Incarnadine Independent School District No 10) and Brownsville Municipal Airport north of I-10W (now known as White Sands Municipal Airport).

Leon Valley is located in Hudspeth County, Texas, about sixty-five miles northeast of Austin. It occupies a valley that runs from the hills of the eastern edge of the county to the Brazos River. The valleys are filled with small streams and flat bottoms where fields are scattered among groves of oak, grapefruit, and other trees. The name "Leon Valley" was given to the community by General James Hogg who named it for his father-in-law, Leonidas Polk. The town site was first settled in 1879 by black Texans who had fled African American slavery in Alabama. They built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the creek that later became known as Main Street. In 1881, white Texans founded Leon Valley after they bought land near the town site from black settlers. They named their communityafter General James Hogg who had fought in Mexican War and been wounded at Camargo Hill in Georgia. The town grew quickly and soon included a school, store, post office, and two churches. In 1886, Leon Valley became one of Hudspeth County's five townships when it was created from parts of two other counties. The community changed hands several times over the next few years until it arrived at its present location in 1890 when local farmers bought 1/2 mile (1 km) east of the original town site from John Waddell and others for $10 per acre (0·78 ha). Development continued slowly until 1903 when an express road was built through this area linking Austin with San Antonio de Irapuato via Lubbock; this made Leon Valley an important commercial center as well as providing access to nearby farminglands which yielded high yields of cotton and corn. By 1910 there were ten stores, four restaurants, three schools (one public), two Baptist churches (the First Baptist Church being founded in 1909), one Masonic Lodge (founded in 1912), six medical clinics (including one for tuberculosis patients), twelve pharmacies including six grocery stores and four seed mills before automobiles began to arrive; all these businesses closed during World War II because of prohibition efforts. In recent decades much change has occurred within Leon Valley with population growth resulting from annexation by neighboring Williamson County during 2000s demographic shifts caused by rural flight following Hurricane Katrina along with suburbanization within Hudspeth County itself which has led to declines in economic activity across most sectors outside agriculture due to lost jobs or migration outstripping replacement rates within agricultural communities throughout central Texas

Leon Valley is a small town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 592 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land Metropolitan Statistical Area. Leon Valley was founded by John Leon and his wife Anna in 1881. The original settlers were Scottish immigrants who named their farm "Lennon." In 1902, the Leon family moved to what is now Leon Valley from an adjacent farm because of financial difficulties. They developed a cotton farming operation and ranched Their land until they sold it in 1951 to the descendants of Ira Hinton. In 1924, Mr. and Mrs. Caryl Ladd bought 1,000 acres (500 ha) north of town from Ira Hinton for $10,000; they subdivided it into lots and built homes there until their death in 1961. Mrs. Ladd bequeathed her home to the community as well as her share of her estate's proceeds to charity when she died in 1984. In 1990, parts of Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library & Museum were dedicated within walking distance of Leon Valley proper on Uptown Road between LBJ Boulevard and White Oak Bayou Creek.
