Leander is a city in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 24,848 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Williamson County. The city was established on April 1, 1860, as a result of the creation of Williamson County by order of President James K. Polk. Lennie Barnes developed what would become Leander in 1877 while working for her father-in-law John A. Barnes Sr., who founded the First National Bank in Leander. In 1893, Linnie Barnes married Wm Lunsford and started businesses such as Lunsford's grocery store and a blacksmith shop; these stores continue to be open today. On November 15, 1906, Leander had its first election as a City Councilmember with N/A incumbent serving instead due to term limits set in place by then Mayor Fenton Crain Jr.. In 1932 Mayor Wm Henson re-elected with over 90% of the vote despite some controversy surrounding World War II veterans who were being housed in local businesses during that time frame The post office closed on February 12th 1954 but reopened on October 14th 1954 after being moved from their original location two blocks north to current day Main Street due to fire damage done to their original building during that time frame

Leander is a small town in Cooke County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,546 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Leander is the only incorporated municipality in Cooke County and was created on February 1, 1872 by an act of the Texas Legislature. The first settler in Leander was Abram Wills who arrived in 1853 from Illinois. Wills named his new town after his native land, Holland (now Utrecht), England. The first store in Leander was established by Augustus Fenton on Main Street on March 3, 1872. A post office called Leander was opened in October 1872 and remained open until it closed on December 12, 1907. The railroad reached Leander via what is now US-75 on July 6, 1901; however, no train ever stopped there. The first school building for students in Leander was built as a barn on West Main Street near present day US- 75 and Elmira Road about 1902; it burned down in 1905 but resumed operation as a schoolhouse about 1906/07 according to one source In addition to school service during those years there were also two churches located here: First Baptist Church which served until 1924 and then became known as White Settlement Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and Second Baptist Church which served until 1951 when it merged with First Baptist to form White Settlement Methodist Episcopal Zion Church again . After World War II began most people left for other parts of Texas or Oklahoma although some did stay behind to farm while others went into business or ranching In 1957 Lester Ewing donated land adjoining School House Lane east of US- 75 that would become Glendora High School and today's renamed Glendora Middle School
Leander was founded in 1836 by Daniel Boone and his wife, Elizabeth. They named it after their favorite spot in Scotland, the Leander Isles. The town grew quickly and soon had a school, a post office, and a hospital. In 1840, Leander became the capital of Texas.
