Leander is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,619 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1879 by John Hargrave and James Waddell. It was named for Leander Cruz de la Garza y Costilla, who explored the area in 1835. The first store opened in 1881 and it became a post office in 1886. A cotton gin and mill were built here in 1889 and 1893 respectively; both were destroyed by fire. The community had its first school, which opened in 1895. In 1903, Leander had its own telephone company and first electric light bulb was used here; this building still stands today as a museum dedicated to that occasion. In 1911, Leander had its own newspaper, "The Herald". That same year saw the opening of the worlds largest ipecacuanha canning plant on Buffalo Bayou (later renamed houston creek). That plant continue to be one of the most important economic engines for Leander until it closed down in 1978 due to over-production by another company; however, some of the products from that plant still remain on display at local stores today! Leander is a small town in southern Texas, about 20 miles east of Amarillo. It was founded by Dutch farmers in 1885 and named for Leander van der Linde, a general in the Spanish-American War. The town grew rapidly during the early days of the oil boom and now has over 10,000 residents. The first settlers were Methodist Episcopalians who arrived from South Carolina in 1885. The town was built on the old Coahuila and Tejas Railroad which crossed through present-day Leander at a junction known as “the Crossing.” A post office was established at Leander in 1886, and soon commerce flourished with goods brought by stagecoach from Amarillo. In 1893, railroad construction ended when Texas seceded from the United States; however, trade continued until after World War I when automobiles took over as the main mode of transportation. In 1925, Leander became an official city within Amarillo County; it remains one of the most populous towns in that county today. The growth of Amarillo led to increased demand for housing and businesses located near downtown; so much so that many buildings dating back to earlier years are no longer standing and need restoration or demolition to make way for new development. Many original buildings still stand (e.g., pioneer store), providing evidence of how important this small community was during its early years. One such example is the Masonic Temple which still stands today (it was built in 1909) – despite being heavily damaged by fire several times throughout its history! Today’s temple is home to numerous local branches of fraternal organizations including Odd Fellows (1893), Masons (1909), Kiwanis (1937), Knights Templar masonry lodge #2A (1994) – all while keeping their historic architecture intact! Many aspects of daily life here remain unchanged even 50+ years later: For example, women used to go into town on Saturday mornings to get eggs from a grocery store before heading out to work; men would help load groceries onto wagons before driving them back home again! This tradition continues to this day as women drive into town for their morning supply run! There are also weekly farmers markets taking place every Tuesday morning at various locations around town - giving locals plenty of opportunity not only to purchase fresh produce but alsohandler services along with other items relatedto agriculture like hayricks & feeders etc.; something that wasn’t possible just 3 or 4 decades ago!
Leander is a small community in the eastern part of Texas, located on the Sabine River. The community was founded by Dutch colonists in 1824. It is named after Leander Jacobsz, an early settler. In 1829, the community had a population of about seventy people. The town was destroyed in a flood in 1892 and has never been rebuilt.
