Leander is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro area. The Leander post office was established on April 1, 1892. The first settler in what is now Leander was Wm. Haggerty, who came to the area in 1872 with his family from Illinois. Other early settlers included James Ahern (1875), John Smeaton (1876), and Phebe Hearn (1877). In 1881, Wm. Haggerty's son-in-law Jno. Ladd arrived from Missouri with his family and built a cabin near present day Leander High School on what is now White Oak Lane."

Leander, Texas is a small town in the United States located in Hays County. The community was founded in 1867 by Captain James Wilkinson and settlers from Ohio. The name Leander comes from Spanish for "the lazy man." The first store in Leander was called the Centennial Store and opened on November 1, 1867. The store was operated by Capt. James Wilkinson and his family until it closed in 1900. In 1902, the town became a part of Wichita Falls when that city was created from parts of Hays County. In 1916, the United States Post Office moved to Leander from Wichita Falls. At that time, it served as the only post office in the entire county. However, mail service stopped operations in 1951 due to cuts made by then-Governor Edwin Edwards within his cabinet at the behest of then-U.S. Senator Phil Gramm (R-TX). In 1963, Leander had its first school – First Baptist Church School – which became operational after being donated by Mrs. Hattie Liles Sellers and her husband John Sellers Sr.. In 1984, First Baptist Church moved out of its original location to make way for a new high school building which opened in 1985. Over time, many businesses have come and gone through Leander's doors: Centennial Clothing Outlet (1901), Jiffy Lube (1963), Kwik Mart (1966), Piggly Wiggly (1981), Coca Cola Refreshment Centers (1982–1984) and Home Depot (2006). However, none have been able to stay long enough to truly share in its history or contribute significantly to its economy; rather they all quickly closed down or relocated elsewhere upon their creation or acquisition by another business entity either larger or more established than Leander itself such as Walmart or Target respectively - making it one of those towns where Memory Lane still reigns supreme!
