The Leander Coast Guard Station was established in 1903. The present station is located on the former site of the old Rio Grande Light House. The light house was built in 1892 and replaced by a new structure in 1904. It was used as a weather station until 1951. In that year, it was moved to its current location on the east side of town. In 1941, the Coast Guard Station became part of Unit 1, Texas National Guard District #24. In 1972, it became part of Unit 2, Texas National Guard District #27 and in 1986 it became part of Unit 3, Texas National Guard District #31. On November 5th, 1990, the Leander Coast Guard Station celebrated its centennial season with an event that included a reunion of past members from Unit 1-27; Unit 2-31; and Unit 3-31. In 1992, they also celebrate their 125th anniversary with another reunion event which included members from all three Units together at one place for lunch! During World War II the coast guard auxiliary service provided rescue services to船 crews stranded onshore during storms or when their vessels were disabled offshore during strikes by other submarines or aircraft patrols. A number of these rescues are documented in various reports compiled by local officials such as those filed by Antonio Medrano (the first Chief Constable) who served from 1944 to 1946 and Frank Saucier who served from 1947 to 1949.- These reports give us an idea about how important coast guard Auxiliary Service had become during this time period.- From 1942 through 1945 there were actually two types of commando operations taking place off Galveston Bay: coastal security/rescue missions carried out by boarding party members attached to Patrol Squadron Two (VP2) aboard Navy ships while larger forces protected shoreline areas ashore; and strategic reconnaissance/strike missions flown over open water under VC3 Commanderial Order Number One (CNO1). These latter missions involved photographing oil refineries and docks while providing warning against enemy landings should they occur.– After World War II ended many coastguard personnel received their discharge papers at Galveston Naval Shipyard where they either remained employed in shore duty or transferred permanently to other Naval commands such as Submarine Squadron Five Hundred Nine (S599), Patrol Squadron Eleven Seventy Three (VP1173), Marine Air Group Two Hundred Thirty Eight (MAG2238), Fleet Marine Force Base Quantico - homeport for Task Force 75 then Carrier Air Wing Fourteen Thousand Six Hundred Fifty Seven (-14Th 775) – these personnel formed what eventually became known as “The Golden Age”of US Coast Guard Auxiliary Services due to the success rate achieved by these units both within AND outside OF THE UNITED STATES Of AMERICA!! Leander's COAST GUARD STATION got its start back in 1903 when Captain George Waddell set up his quarters on top of Big Stump Lighthouse just east of downtown Leander after seeing lights flashing signals along the Mexican Border….. During WWI Capts John Kappan & Harry Snyder donated land next door so We could build our own Lighthouse…… Lt James Ferguson took over duties from Capt Ferguson & continued building until 1925 when he retired…………… WWII saw alot changes but we keep things pretty much same………. Today our Coast Guards are still here serving you 24/7

The Leander coast guard gift history can be traced back to 1909 when the city of Leander established a Coast Guard detachment. The first gift from the Leander coast guard was an ice cream truck in 1922. In 1951, the city set up a permanent Coast Guard station at Pacific Beach. In 1957, the town of Lufkin donated land for a Coast Guard Station and in 1959, the Leander detachment became part of Texas State Coast Guard.
Leander is a city in Texas and the seat of Anderson County. The population was 54,827 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Leander was José de Jesús Hidalgo on July 6, 1837. The town was founded by Captain George Witherspoon in 1839 on land that he had purchased from theBulgarian immigrants who had arrived in Texas earlier that year. In 1840, Leander's first school opened with 30 students and four teachers. In 1845, a cotton gin was built and began processing cotton for export. A post office was established in Leander in 1850; it changed its name to Andersonville in 1856 after Anderson County became part of Texas. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Braxton Bragg called for help from Leander residents against Union forces approaching their town from the north side of South Padre Island Naval Shipyard on San Miguel Bayou near Corpus Christi. More than 1,500 men from Leander volunteered to fight for Confederate Lieutenant Colonel James Fenton at Fort Worth before being mustered out two months later. Afterward, many county officials moved to Austin while others left for other townships within Texas because of political changes taking place in Dallas at that time. For example: Judge John Boggs moved away after becoming one of Mayor David White's key allies during opposition to white supremacy ordinances passed by a board made up largely of white people following Houston's annexation into Texas Tech University District No 2 (Houston Heights). In 1865 Boggs rejoined the community when White appointed him justice commissioner instead of leaving for Austin due to his increasing opposition to Reconstruction policies being enacted by Gov usable Elihu McCulloch throughout much southernTexas under Ulysses S Grant which favored slavery over free labor principles- this change also helped define old west law enforcement methods such as posse comitatus raids ever popularized By these same individuals some time later when Brewster Magee took office most Texans felt they needed more honest elected officials not just Afro-Americans so although Brewster Magee never admitted this he effectively legalized African Americans voting starting with local elections through state Legislature- three years later another Afro American would hold office statewide

Leander was founded by the Dutch in 1698. The city was named after Leander, a captain of the Spanish Armada who avoided being captured and died in Peru during the 1580s. The first store opened in 1853 and by 1865, there were 10 stores. In 1882, the city had a population of 508 and by 1907 it had increased to 1,100. In 1916, Leander joined the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and within 5 years it had reached 3,000 residents. By 1930, Leander had become an important industrial center with over 100 businesses employing 2,500 people. The Great Depression stopped most growth but by 1941 Leander’s population had grown to 4,500 and it continued to grow through World War II until its decline after the war. Today only 350 people live in Leander while 1,500 people work in its various businesses which include manufacturing (mainly textiles), retailing (mnemonic products such as pet food), health care services (medical equipment), professional services (such as architecture) and agriculture (fruits).
Leander was founded by Andrew Leander in 1836. The town grew quickly and soon became a major center of the Texas Revolution. In 1839, Leander incorporation created a new county seat and the town prospered as an agricultural center. However, during the Civil War, Leander fell to Confederate forces and was destroyed.
