The United States Air Force (USAF) was founded on September 15, 1947 by the United States Congress as a result of the National Security Act of 1947. The USAF is one of the five military branches of the U.S. government that are constitutionally based on the Federalist system, which provides for a bicameral legislature with two houses, each representing an equal number of states and three branches: executive, legislative and judicial. The USAF has over 33,000 enlisted members and more than 118,000 civilian employees worldwide including more than 10,000 in Texas. In fiscal year 2017 it spent almost $162 billion on operational expenses including research and development; procurement; maintenance; capital improvements; training programs; weapons systems support; family assistance programs; infrastructure projects; contingency operations; this is 5% less than its 2016 budget

Cotton cultivation also played an important role in early Leander’s growth as did dairy farming after railroads arrived in Leander along with new irrigation systems that made growing crops possible on flatlands once considered impenetrable swampy territory. Today, many aspects of daily life here remain quite similar to when they were first established- principally Farms/livestock production (large ranches), Manufacturing (small businesses), Service industries (big box store) and Retail trade (furniture stores). With limited exceptions due mainly to annexation efforts by neighboring Wichita Falls over time much newer areas have taken over these traditional roles: Education & Health Care; Construction & Manufacturing; HealthcareSupport Services; IT services and professional services firms such as accountants and engineers etc..
