Lancaster, Texas is a small town located in San Antonio County, Texas. The population was 7,819 at the 2010 census. Lancaster is named after Lancaster, England. The first settler in what is now Lancaster was James Hance who arrived in 1827. By 1830, fourteen families had moved to the area and by 1836 there were twenty-one families living in the town. A school was built in 1837 and by 1840 it housed a total of fifty students. The first post office was established in 1841 and mail service began operating from Lancaster on October 2nd, 1846. In 1865 an armory was erected in the town and during World War II it served as a munitions plant. A new high school was opened in 1966 and the old one closed down in 1978. In 1990 the community formed a partnership with nearby McKinney to build a public works complex which included parks, libraries, grocery stores and other businesses. Today Lancaster's economy relies primarily on agriculture which includes wheat farming, corn farming and cattle ranching; although there are some manufacturing activities such as textiles and plastics production

Lancaster, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, located in the East Central region of the state. As of 2010, its population was 30,821 people. The town was founded in 1867 by John Lancaster and named for him. It became a city on December 1, 1971. The name "Lancaster" originated from a land grant made to John Lancaster by President James Kenedy. The original town site was on the east side of what is now US 287/I-10W between Grand Prairie and Arlington Heights; it included parts of present-day Lancaster and Grand Prairie Streets as well as Old County Road 556 (now I-10W). On November 9, 1873, an act of the Texas Legislature designated part of present-day Lancaster as the county seat for Travis County; this change was effective with respect to all towns within that county save those which had already been assigned their new seat by ordinance or resolution before November 9th. In 1876–77, during Reconstruction after the American Civil War ended, Lancaster residents voted not to secede from Texas but support Reconstruction efforts through voting rights drives targeting white Southerners who had fled Confederate states following hostilities. In 1865 when Congress passed the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution granting citizenship to black Americans not born in America – including citizens of slave states – most Texans did not accept this amendment because they felt slavery still existed in America and should be preserved intact. So while some residents moved into new homes built after annexation by Travis County or were rehoused within existing communities due to lack of available housing elsewhere in Eastern Travis County (then unincorporated), many more Lancasters remained living apart from their fellow Texans until 1971 when incorporated into Travis County as part of its overall growth patterns following passage of Republic Act No 1001 creating municipal corporations throughout Texas statewide The original community site near present day US 287/I-10W between Grand Prairie and Arlington Heights once included parts of present day Lancaster and Grand Prairie Streets as well as Old County Road 556 (now I-10W). Lancaster is a city in and the county seat of Hardin County, Texas, United States. The population was 913 at the 2010 census. Lancaster was founded by George Lancaster in 1879 as a town on the east side of the Brazos River. It became a city in 1907 and was renamed after General John A. McClernand, who fought in the Mexican–American War and later served as governor of Mississippi. The city's current name is derived from its location on an ox trail connecting West Texas with eastern Oklahoma Territory during the early 20th century. The first post office opened in Lancaster on July 10, 1881, and remained open until it closed on December 1, 1912. The first school in Lancaster was called "School House No. 2" but changed its name to "Moses Hogg School" because Moses Hogg donated land for the school buildings. The first teacher hired for this school was Mrs. Cate Godfrey which started classes on September 14, 1881. In 1886, Lancaster had one hotel but no stores or restaurants so citizens built their own store which would become known as the Baptist Hotel when it first opened which remain today as one of downtown's most popular businesses In 1902, Lancaster voters approved annexation by Dallas; however, Dallas refused to recognize this annexation because it did not include any property that lay within Hardin County limits. In response to this rejection hardin county formed a group led by future mayor Alonzo Harris to annex all of Dallas' territory into Hardin County including Lancaster On January 5, 1903 Mayor Harris unveiled plans for what would become downtown Lancaster which included constructing several blocks of new City Hall along Elm Street between Main and Market Streets while also creating two other blocks bounded by Second Avenue northwest and Third Avenue south west On March 4th 1903 Mayor Harris announced that construction began on what would eventually become Main Street between Elm Street and Market Streets with shops located along both sides . This project remains part of Downtown Lancaster today . This addition increased business activity along Main Street as people now could go directly to their favorite merchants rather than walking around search for something they wanted
