Lakeway is a town in Hood County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Lakeway comes from the Choctaw word "kaway" meaning “a watering place” or “reservation” and "-way” meaning “path or course.” It was given to the community by General Sam Houston on November 12, 1836 as a gift for his services in the Mexican-American War. The community received its current name on October 3, 1907 when it became a part of the new East Central Railroad District and was incorporated as a town under that name. The first post office opened in 1889 and closed in 1935. Lakeway is located in eastern Hood County at (31° 39' 38" N 106° 07' 03" W). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,824 people, 612 households, and 447 families residing in the town. The population density was 367 people per square mile (151/km²). There were 753 housing units at an average density of 188 per square mile (72/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97% White; 2% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1%ofthe population.
In 1874, the first settlers in what is now Lakeway County arrived from Illinois. They were farmers who had come to the area to explore a new land that was being offered for sale by the federal government. The land was located near Austin and included present-day Lakeway and parts of Dripping Springs and Georgetown Counties. The first school in what is now Lakeway was built in 1875 on the site of an old quarry. It was known as "Blue Eye School." In 1880, a County Courthouse was erected on the same site as Blue Eye School. The courthouse served until it burned down in 1902. A post office called "Lakeway" was established at this location in 1881. In 1893, a settlement called "Lake Heights" grew up around the post office. By 1907, all of these settlements had been renamed to their current names: Lakeway, Dripping Springs, Georgetown County, and Austin. By 1920, there were over 100 residents living in Los Alamitos Township (now part of Austin). By 1930, there were only 10 residents living there. The population of Lakeway dwindled until it reached its current level of 10 residents in 2000

The Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) is a unit of the United States Armed Forces that are deployed abroad in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
