Lakeway is a small town in the far northeast corner of Texas, about 25 miles from Amarillo. It was founded in 1887 by two Dutch farmers, Dirk and Anna van der Heyden. The first coffee crop was grown on the three small farms that were part of the village until 1886. In 1912, Lakeway became a city and its first mayor was J.M. Forbes. The popularity of coffee as a giftitem has been evident for many years now, with people traveling from all over to purchase beans or cups at local cafes and tea rooms. One such cafe is The Coffee House in downtown Lakeway which has been serving up delicious coffee drinks since 1922! One of the earliest known coffee gift shops opened in 1902 at 116 Neches Rd., near where I-20 meets US-183 (now FM 527). At that time, it was the only store open for buying coffee beans and other related items including milk pails and crocks (see photo). Some believe this shop may have been started by one of the original settlers in what is now Lakeway- on his family's farm north of town- as a way to give back some money he had saved up during his lifetime! Another early shop owner who operated out of an old blacksmith shop on US 183 between Amarillo Junction and Garza City was John Fenton Sr.. This business served as a stop along their route selling goods like clotheslines, saddles & horseshoes, etc.. It seems likely that John Fenton ran this store because he could sell more than just coffee! Over time other stores followed suit - many located near major highways making it easy for tourists to purchase their favorite drink while also supporting local businesses! So much so that today there are several well-known coffee shops scattered throughout town - giving visitors plenty to choose from!

In 1892, Cedar Grove was renamed Lakeway after Rear Admiral Augustus Fenton Clements who served as US Naval Commander on the Texas Border during the American Civil War and later served as Vice President ofTexas under Ulysses S Grant In 1906, two local farmers were among six men who founded Haskell Institute which became one of Texas' most famous universities In 1967, a group of businessmen led by Cecil Blease purchased 5500 acres (2 km²) near present-day Lakeway and began to develop it into what would become one of the most successful agricultural communities in Central Texas

Lakeway is a town inMcLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,996 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1881 by James A. Lake and his wife Mathilda (née McGee). After James's death in 1886, Mathilda took over management of the settlement and it grew rapidly from its few residents to a small village with a school, church, hotel and other businesses by 1892. The name "Lakeway" became popular due to its association with the nearby Cedar Creek Reservoir which served as a watering ground for many herds of cattle during the early years of this region's development. In 1912, Lakeway incorporated as a town under the name "Houston". In 1978, it changed its name to "Lakeway" after selling its land to John Houstoun for $1 million. Houstoun had purchased much of McLennan County before becoming governor in 1976 and later president of UBS Americas Inc., one of America's largest banking empires. As part of his plan to revive downtown Houston, he began construction on what would come to be known as Houstoun Place including the new Lakeway shopping center adjacent to Interstate 10 on Loop 610 East near Rice University. The first residents arrived in 1888 when James A. Lake moved from Illinois with his family following their purchase of 640 acres (240 hectares) along Cedar Creek Reservoir east of present-day Lakeway Village Limits from Colonel Will Rogers' ranching companyTexaco Refining & Trading Company for $4 per acre ($/ha). By 1893 there were about 30 people living in tiny cedar shacks scattered around Prairie View A&M University Campus amid irrigated acreage providing milk, beef and cotton production until API corn became available for marketing during World War I diverted truck traffic away from Prairie View Agriculture Center while Texaco refined oil products at Plant 7 southwest of town limits then exported crude petroleum products through Pipeline Cushing Terminal located east on US Highway 281 north into Wichita Falls where most goods shipped were transported by barge down Anna River before being delivered by railcar or driveable tanker truck across Great Plains Intermodal trade route linking Wichita Falls with St Louis via Dallas–Fort Worth Railway Station then drove west on SH 71 northwest past Lavaca before turning northeast onto FM 191 leading southeast into McLennan County
Lakeway began as a small creek in western Texas. In 1853, the area was combined with the nearby town of Lake Worth to form the newly created city of Dallas. The name for this new city was changed to Dallas in honor of General Sam Houston, who had spearheaded the Battle of San Jacinto and helped drive Mexico out of Texas. The city grew quickly, and by 1875 it had grown so large that it required its own post office. In 1885, Dallas annexed what is now Arlington County, making it one of the most populous cities in Texas.
