The CDP was created on November 3, 2008 when portions of Sugar Land and Houston were combined to form a new metropolitan area. The CDP covers an area of and has a population density of . According to the 2000 U.S. Census, Lake Jackson had a total population of 2,903 people living in 1,856 households out of which 50% were married couples living together and 40% were single individuals. Lake Jackson, Texas is a town in Harris County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,763 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area. The name "Jackson" comes from the Choctaw word jaxabatchee meaning "place where good water lies." The first people to live in what is now Lake Jackson were the Caddo and others who came from Arkansas in 1805 when General Sam Houston crossed overland from Mexico into Texas with his army and drove out the Mexican forces. A post office called Pleasant Hill was established in 1836 by John Sitton. In 1837 James Fairey set up a mill on Buffalo Bayou within present day Lake Jackson limits. In 1840, one of Sam Houston's commanders decided to move some settlers southward into what would become Brazoria County because of recent rainfall patterns that had favored cotton production over rice farming. This group led by Jesse Benton moved eastward along Buffalo Bayou and founded villages such as Bridgeport and Granbury on land donated by Judge Augustus Ewing. On December 6, 1845, President James Kenedy issued Executive Order No. 12 which ordered all marshals throughout the United States to disarm all citizens who did not have legal arms or meet certain military requirements including being registered as voters and owning property worth $10 or more per acre west of a line running north from San Antonio to Huntsville then northerly to Karnes City before turning due east for 10 miles (16 kilometers) to reach Indianola Creek about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of present day Lake Jackson limits. This order effectively ended gunfights between Texans and Mexican militiamen that had been taking place since independence days when Rangers were paid $5 per hour plus expenses for fighting Indians rather than receiving pay for their work as farmers/tax collectors/roadsmen/firemen etc... A bandanna worn around the neck became an identifying badge of sorts for Texans during this time period as it signified that they were not subjects of any foreign power - even those located within Mexican territory! This act also helped create an identity among Texans as self-reliant independent patriots who could stand up against any force or country regardless of size or allegiance! Orders such as this one are evidence that Texas was still under Spanish rule at this time!
