They then moved to Lake Jackson in 1914 and began selling their beans through small businesses and grocery stores. In addition to their ground coffee, they also produced tea leaves for sale at local markets. Today, Julius Caesar Coffee continues to operate as a independent business with locations throughout the Southeast United States. Lake Jackson, Texas is home to several coffee roasters that have been around for many years. The first coffee roaster in the area was Bob's Coffee in Lake Jackson. Bob's Coffee served a variety of coffees and tea as well as iced tea. In 1961, Bob's Coffee transitioned from business to ownership and operation of its own espresso machine. The current owner of Bob's Coffee, Darrell Hines, has been running the business since 1991. Another long-standing coffee house in Lake Jackson is Blue Bottle Coffee, which opened its doors in 1984. Blue Bottle offers an eclectic selection of coffees and teas as well as pastries and desserts.
Lake Jackson is a small, remote County seat located in the southeastern corner of Texas. The population was 7,824 at the 2000 census. The name comes from the Choctaw word jahga which means "big water" and hane meaning "valley." The first Europeans to visit what is now Lake Jackson were horseback riders looking for a place to pasture their horses. A whirlpool developed in the creek and it was named by them Jourdain's Whirlpool because Jean de Jourdain, an explorer and author, stopped there on his way from Mexico City to Austin in 1542. In 1836, General Sam Houston built a fort at present day junction of U.S. 63 and FM 528 near Red River as part of his defenses against Mexican forces advancing upstream from Chihuahua along the Rio Grande route. On July 6, 1836, General Houston issued orders authorizing Colonel James Kenedy to establish military posts at Garza Creek (now US-63), San Jacinto Creek (now FM 528), Clear Fork (now US-69) and Big Spring (now LPJK). Colonel Kenedy arrived at Garza Creek on October 12, 1836; San Jacinto Creek on October 17; Clear Fork on November 3; Big Spring on November 10. On December 4, 1836 Congress passed an act providing for a permanent seat for Texas within its borders - Lake Jackson - with authority to be designated as such by President Andrew Johnson when he received reports that no other location would provide a suitable site for the seat of government. The Act provided that "no person or corporation owning or occupying any Avery farm west of Pearl Street [in downtown Dallas] shall be allowed any title thereto until after all titles claimed by them have been satisfied".

Over time, many of the larger commercialartisanal roasters began to branches out and produce a wider variety of flavors and styles of coffee than just roast their own beans. This change was largely due to the increasing popularity of espresso drinks as well as the demand for high-quality, unique coffees. Some large commercialartisanal roasters have even started producingFilter Coffee blends -a type of specialty coffee that is typically prepared with whole bean filters (rather than ground) in order to give it a stronger flavor profile). At its peak in the early 2000s, some artisanal roasters operated at over 100 locations across North America. However, since then, there has been an overall decrease in production due to various factors such as competition from big box stores and modern technology making it easier and cheaper for Starbucks and other major grocers to source quality beans online or from farmers markets on a regular basis. Nonetheless, many smaller artisanal roaster continue to operate successfully today thanks to their passionate but limited staffs who are dedicated to creating delicious cupcakes or lattes using only fresh local beans.

Lake Jackson was founded in 1846 by John Wesley Powell and his party as the first of a series of U.S. Geological Survey survey stations along the Gulf of Mexico. The town, located on the west bank of the now dry, impounded Lake Jackson, grew rapidly during the early years of its development; by 1872 it had a population of 4,000. By 1900 it had grown to 11,500 and became an important center for cotton production in Texas. In World War II it played an active role as a military base and port for naval vessels operating in off-shore waters near Texas and Louisiana. The town ceased to exist after federal funding ended in 1969; however, remnants of its architecture remain scattered throughout the area.
The town of Jackson, Texas was founded by the Texans in 1836. The town quickly grew and became a popular center for trade and commerce. In 1840, the town received its first post office and soon developed into a major metropolis. By 1865, Jackson had become the largest city in Texas and one of its most important centers of industry.
