The United States Army was founded in 1775 as the Continental Army. The first American military campaign took place in 1776, when General George Washington and his Patriot forces fought against British troops at Bunker Hill. The Continental Congress authorized the creation of a standing army in 1781 and an infantry regiment was authorized on December 15, 1782. The first battalion of infantry Regiment No. 1 was organized on January 14, 1783 and it served with distinction during the Battle of Yorktown. On July 4, 1812, the organization of Infantry Regiment No. 6 was approved by Congress and it served with distinction during the Mexican-American War. In 1898, Infantry Regiment No. 6 became part of Brigade Headquarters Company 1st Texas Infantry (1st TI) which later became known as 2nd Battalion Texas Infantry (2/TII). In 1917, Brigade Headquarters Company 1st Texas Infantry (1/TII) were redesignated 3rd Battalion Texas Infantry (3/TII). In 1951 Brigade Headquarters Company 3rd Texas Infantry (3/TII) became known as 4th BattalionTexas Infantery(4/TI), before finally becoming 5th BattalionTexasInfantry(5/TI) in 1976 when brigade headquarters company 5th battalion moved to San Antonio from Fort Worth and 4th battalion relocated to Lake Jackson from Hearneville. The United States Army has stationed troops in the Lake Jackson area for over 160 years. The first U.S. military installation in the area was Fort Smith on the Brazos River in 1836. From there, successive troops moved to various sites around the area before being installed at Camp Bowie in 1909. In 1916, a new camp was built on what is now State Highway 183 near present-day Lake Jackson and named Camp Polk after General George Polk, who had served as President of America during World War I. In 1940, Texas became an independent state and the army relocated its main post from Fort Worth to Dallas. In 1944, Camp Bowie was renamed Fort Sam Houston after Texas Governor James Fenton Houston Jr.. The army left Dallas in 1946 and all remaining installations were decommissioned by 1969. Today, there are only a few remains of these former installations scattered around local communities including Arlington (Fort Sam Houston), Edgefield (Camp Polk), and Springdale (Fort Worth).

In 1876, Lake Jackson became an official town when it was annexed by Arlington County and it has grown steadily ever since then. It is home to over 50% of Arlington County’s population and is one of its most important economic engines. Additionally, Lake Jackson has been host to several annual events such as the Texas State Fair which takes place every year on Labor Day Weekend in late September or early October; international truck shows which are popular among within the agricultural industry; as well as country music festivals throughout summer months like BluegrassFest or WesternFESTivals which attract some of country’s biggest names in country music. LakeJackson also offers excellent fishing opportunities for both recreational anglers and tournament fishermen alike with many species - including largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, white bass and bluegill - available around its shores!
The first white person to set foot in what is now Texas was Captain James K. Polk in 1836. The area that would later become Texas was part of Mexico for most of its history, and it was only after the Mexican-American War (1848-1849) that the United States acquired it as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. On January 6, 1876, Congress passed the First Session of the Seventy-Third Congress with a resolution proclaiming Texas an open door for settlement by foreigners according to Article III, Section 2 of the Constitution.
