The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History in Lake Jackson, Texas began in 1948. The deployment of the first F-86 Sabres from Wright-Patterson AFB was a commemoration of World War II veteran and airman, Red Nichols. Nichols had served with the 354th Fighter Squadron at RAF Bovingdon, England during World War II. Upon his return to the United States he joined the USAF and flew as a Kimbal Jet Pilot for Tactical Air Command (TAC). In 1949, Nichols became an instructor at Randolph AFB, Texas before moving to Dowling AFB in 1957. From Dowling he flew as an instructor until his retirement in 1984. In 1984 Lt Col Don Henson assumed command of the 403d Fighter Wing at Lackland AFB, Texas when Colonel Milton Wiegand transferred from Fairchild AFB to that wing on assignment to Headquarters USAF. While flying local missions over central Texas IFRs (instrument flyby) I saw Lieutenant Col Henson's aircraft taxi into my airspace on a "stretch" mission while conducting operations over San Antonio APO A2 9089 supporting Operation Desert Storm; this was my introduction to Lt Col Henson and his unit. I have been providing support for ground forces operations since late 1992 when I joined ForcesAircom Support Squadron 1 located at Offutt AFB,. Nebraska flying Boeing E-3 Sentry AWACS(Aerial Warning/Control System) assets out of Omaha Municipal Airport-. My primary mission today is providing live imagery through High Altitude Long Endurance Surveillance Radar Imagery(HALEIRIS) capability from offloading platforms inside Hellenic Airlines hangar located adjacent to Offutt AFB for use by Joint Chiefs envoys visiting Department of Defense installations overseas; this involves uninterrupted coverage day or night 24x7 during major events such as summits, conferences or military parade deployments...this provides real time situational awareness which allows commanders on all levels to make decisions about what actions should be taken without having ToP information available prior to those decisions being made...it also enables commanders who are geographically close but unable or unwilling to deploy their forces directly involved in hostilities or exercises....... Major General Leroy Jethro Gibbs became Commander 3rd Air Force Region Southwest Asia after retiring as Chief of Staff Air Combat Command Northeast District - Cleveland Field AF on November 1st 2009.....On July 12th 2009 MajGen Gibbs announced plans for 1st Brigade Combat Team 4th Infantry Division (Light Infantry) stationed at Camp Arifjan AB Kuwait will become 7th Wing deployed gift history unit under command Major General George Zukis......General Zukis assumed command effective September 15th 2009 ......1st Brigade Combat Team 4th Infantry Division redeployment gift history begins...... Lake Jackson, Texas is a small town located in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. Lake Jackson was founded by brothers Al and James Jackson in 1866 as a cotton plantation named "Jenny's Bend". In 1892, it became a city. The Arsenal Ammunition Plant was built in 1914 and remains an important economic development in the community today. The name Lake Jackson comes from the Choctaw word jacob which means fast water or body of water that flows quickly. This name was likely given to the area because of its swift current and clear waters. The earliest evidence of human activity in this area can be found onsite at Jenny's Bend where Native Americans were dating back over 10,000 years ago when the region was part of the Wichita Nation under Chief Wichita. After Removal from their land in 1830 by General Stephen Austin and his forces, many Choctaws relocated to Indian Territory including Jenny's Bend where they began to settle beginning around 1800 with Sam Houston as their leader. By 1851, there were 87 households living on Jenny's Bend with 12 families working for Captain David Thompson who ran riverboats along the Trinity River carrying goods between San Antonio and Fort Worth downstream during American Frontier Wars between Mexico and America In 1892 when Lake Jackson became a city due to increased growth due to railroad transportation changes within Tarrant County (and adjacent counties), it included much of what is now unincorporated Fort Worth County except for portions of West Side Highway which lie within Arlington County today - making it one of largest urban areas outside Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan areas during this time period During World War II, Lake Jackson played host to various military installations throughout Tarrant County including Camp Bowie (later Camp Kilmer) which housed over 4500 U.S soldiers from 1942 – 1945; Naval Air Station Corpus Christi (NASCorpus Christi) which operated two Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress Squadrons equipped with Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft conducting airstrikes against Japanese targets; later Edwards Air Force Base homeported two F-4 Phantom II fighter jets engaged in air combat operations over North Africa during Operation Torch; and finally White Sands Missile Range - also known as El Paso Municipal Airport - homeported three McDonnell Douglas MD-2 jetliners used for precision bombing missions during Operation Overlord Total military personnel stationed here totaled over 25,000 men during World War II Aerial photography taken just prior to WWII shows most major buildings still standing although some have been replaced such as Jenny's Bend cotton gin which has been moved across FM 925 east side & new addition houses high school campus
