La Porte is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,834 at the 2010 census. LaPorte is located in the Texan Panhandle and is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become La Porte was J.B. Hagan in 1868. A post office called LaPorte was established in 1879, and remained in operation until 1903. The community's name came from Spanish for "the door of the port." In 1901, a group of businessmen pooled their money to purchase land east of town for a railroad station and depot (later renamed La Porte Depot). They named the new community after John Fenton Porter, one of their owners. In 1902, a school district was organized which included portions of Hudspeth County; LaPorte became part of it on October 1, 1902. A general store opened in 1905 which remains open today as Town Store #1 & 2 (now known as Walmart). The first Grain Elevator arrived here around 1907/08 with an early shipment from Kansas City that year A womens' Auxiliary branch library opened its doors on May 21st 1922 just south of la porte along US Highway 288 near present day IH 35 une local radio show moved to laporte from san Angelo on october 3rd 1990

La Porte, Texas is a small town located in the southern part of Tarrant County, Texas, about 20 miles southeast of Fort Worth. The community was founded by John and Mary LaPorte in 1881. La Porte is named for General George Armstrong Custer and his family who were killed at the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876. The town attained its current size with the annexation of neighboring towns on April 17, 1912. The first inhabitants of La Porte were farmers and their families who arrived from Missouri in 1879. A post office was established at La Porte in 1880, and served until it was discontinued in 1902. In 1881, John and Mary LaPorte set up a store in the community which became known as "The White House". They also started a school which taught children between the ages of 6-18 years old. By 1889, there were 10 houses in La Porte with a population of 30 people. In 1912, after annexation to Fort Worth by the city government, La Porte had an estimated population of 100 people and two stores. In 1916-1917 during World War I (the Spanish–American War), over 150 men from nearby towns volunteered to serve in various branches of the military including infantrymen with Company G1/2 Texan Infantry Regiment #5 (later redesignated 4th Infantry Regiment). Many residents also worked on farm production during wartime due to lack of other options. After World War II ended, local businesses began to decline as soldiers left for new jobs or returned home; however, some stayed open through droughts caused by Hurricane Rita in 2005 or natural disasters such as Harvey that struck Dallas-Fort Worth area in August 2017 A new high school has been built on land acquired from Trinity High School across FM 1960 from where students used to cross under FM 620 onto campus property before it was closed down due to flooding following Harvey; now all students attend either Roosevelt HS or Westlake HS depending on availability
La Porte, Texas was founded in 1836 by Captain John H. Boggs and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after the port of La Ponte, Italy where Captain Boggs had been married before he sailed to Texas. LaPorte developed as a small frontier trading post near the current day city of San Antonio. In 1840, LaPorte became the capital of New Mexico when Santa Fe became a state. In 1845, La Porte passed from Mexican rule to United States control following the Mexican-American War. The town continued to grow and prosper under American rule until it was destroyed in an Indian raid in 1851. The town's final days were marked by tragedy: A fire destroyed most of the town in 1852; floods caused extensive damage in 1857; and disease killed large numbers of people during the 1860s and 1870s. Today only a few remaining buildings remain from La Porte's heyday as a thriving small town.
