The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History Collection at the La Porte-Montgomery County Historical Society preserves and maintains items related to military service through donated or donated donations. The collection includes items that date back to World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. From 1939 to 1945, Marines stationed in La Porte contributed gifts of jewelry, uniforms, and other insignia to the war effort. Many of these items are now on display at the Marine Barracks Museum in Monterey Park, California. In 1969, orders were given by President Nixon to begin sending Marines home with appropriate gift parcels. As a result of this order, the La Porte-Montgomery County Historical Society was born as part of the Department of Defense's Program for National Policymaking (PND). The role of the LPCHS has been To collect and store items from DOD installations worldwide in order to provide access to these artifacts for researchers who wantto study marine history not only here at home but also abroad.

La Porte is a small town in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,068 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. La Porte is located on the banks of the Trinity River. The first European to visit LaPorte was Captain George Washington in 1795. A post office called LaPorte was established in 1809 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1856. The name "Porter" originated with General James Porter who served as Commandant of Fort Worth from 1817 to 1830. In 1861, General John Buford's Cavalry Brigade arrived at LaPorte and began Operation Gunboat Squadron which resulted in the Battle of San Jacinto which ended Mexican independence and put an end to American rule over Mexico City for good. In 1865, General William Hogg's cavalry brigade arrived at LaPorte and also began operations against Pancho Villa during his invasion of Mexico City known as "the war to end all wars". In 1886, Charles Goodyear founded Goodyear Tire & Rubber company in La Porte with his brother-in-law Augustus Ewing Jr.. Goodyear's tire factory became one of America's leading manufacturers throughout its history and still produces tires today. Held every Fourth weekend in October since 1903 by Friends of Historic Fort Worth (FOW), this event features exhibits on local history from artisans to cookbook authors; concerts by popular bands;and more! There are also many food booths available for purchase durign these 4 days!

It showed how well intentioned Marine efforts actually can be- something which we see on a daily basis in Afghanistan where large donations go towards helping civilians affected by violence

La Porte, Texas is a small town in Rice County, Texas and part of the Houston metropolitan area. laPorte was started as an agricultural community in 1836 by James Hogg, a Scottish immigrant. In 1865, it became the county seat of Rice County. The city developed around LaPorte Plaza shopping center on FM 19609 and the nearby La Porte Dam which was completed in 1971. The town was originally called Dodge City because many of its early settlers were from Dodge City, Kansas. In 1907, La Porte acquired its current name when it annexed portions of San Antonio to become one municipality. The annexation made La Porte the first incorporated municipality in Rice County and also added to its population size by 10%. In 1969, Hurricane Bandar occurred and destroyed most of downtown La Porte but did not damage the shopping center or dam which still stand today. As a result of this event, La Porte began to experience rapid growth and development within its borders with new businesses opening up all over the city center including several banks and restaurants. Today, much of what used to be downtown is now filled with housing developments that have replaced most of the commercial buildings that once stood there.
The LaPorte County seat was first settled in 1836 by Captain John P. Addison and his wife, Sarah, as part of the Texas Annexation. The town was named for the port of La Porte on the lower Brazos River. In 1850, LaPorte became a county seat when it was organized from portions of Galveston and Harris counties. The new county courthouse and jail were built in 1855 by local builder JW Moody and contractor James Henson. In 1881, LaPorte County merged with Harris County to form the current Lone Star State.
