In 1955, after years of planning and construction, AFB La Marque was born! The new airbase served as an important staging ground for Nato’s war in Korea while also providing employment for local citizens. After more than 50 years of service, AFB LaMarqué is still functioning today as one of America’s most valuable military installations!

La Marque, Texas is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo metropolitan area. La Marque is located on FM 527 about 25 miles (40 km) south-southeast of Amarillo and 40 miles (60 km) northwest of Wichita Falls. The first settler in what became La Marque was John Bledsoe who arrived in 1847. He named his new community after himself and his brother James Bledsoe who had come earlier that year from London, England to find a rancho in which they could settle. The partners worked out an agreement whereby each would get one third of the land and use the other two thirds for themselves - with no right of way through any Indian Territory settlements or claims made by neighboring ranchers or farmers. Bledsoe's nephew James Waddle settled there in 1872 after moving from Wichita Falls where he had been a lieutenant colonel in the Union Army during the American Civil War as part of General George Custer's Seventh Cavalry Regiment. Waddle laid out streets and built stores before dying suddenly near la marque when horsebacking over some low hillsides while exploring nearby prospectations on October 3, 1893 at the age of 50 years old - one day shy of his 100th birthday! In 1902 LaMarqE annexation occurred by order of then Governor Averill Harriman along with all other towns within Midland County including Newtonia and Clearwater Springs giving it its name: "LaMarQE". In 1915 Southern Pacific Railroad donated 8 acres (3 ha) east of Main Street for a depot/store complex; this site remains today as Depot Square Park west of I-10 Exit 281A). There were various businesses opened here such as groceries, general merchandise & farm supplies, blacksmithing services etc.; but most notably Kinema Theatre which opened on December 10th 1915 starring Lon Chaney Jr., Tex Ritter & Maurice Evans as murderers & robbers interests in an Off Broadway play called "The Clamdigger" produced by J.P.. Carey with music composed by Jerome Kern featuring lead vocalist Mary Martin among others...Kinema Theatre operated successfully until it closed its doors on May 26th 1948 due to lackadaisical management after extensive damage sustained from windstorms that season... later reopened under new ownership by Amarillo Association Of The Arts (AAA) [now known as Amarillo Cultural District] beginning February 3rd 1949 continuing operation until May 6th 1990 when it closed again due to financial difficulties.........LaMarQE designation includes portions adjacent to current US Highway 287 just east off I-10 exit 281A)...today still standing abandoned but improved over time with active development

La Marque is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 714 at the 2000 census. It was founded in 1872 by Elisha C. French and his wife, Lizzie English. La Marque is named for the marques (farms) of Pierre Gourgues and Louis-Jacques Lafitte. The first post office in La Marque was established in 1875. In 1902, the town became a county seat under the new Texas Constitution. The courthouse and jail were built in 1906–07; both are still standing. In 1916, La Marque became an early member of the American Legion; it has been an honor society since then. In 1951, La Marque consolidated with other nearby towns to form Hudspeth County.[4]
In 1836, Antonio L. La Marque founded the town of La Marque in east-central Texas. The town was named for his father, Antonio L. LaMarque, Sr., who had relocated from Spain to Texas in 1826. In 1839, the first school opened in La Marque and soon after it became a center of trade and commerce in eastern Texas. By 1850, the population of La Marque had increased to over 100 residents and by 1857 it had reached 200 residents. The townsfolk erected a log courthouse in 1860 and later replaced it with a more imposing structure which still stands today - the First National Bank Building (now known as the Baylor University School Of Law). In 1861, John Clements leased land to build anvils for processing cotton crops on which he began operations that would become one ofthe most successful businesses in eastern Texas. In 1865, LaMarque incorporated as a city under its own charter and by 1870 its population had grown to 1,500 people. In 1886,LaMarquepage erected a new brick school building which remains standing today - now used as apartments or office space by local businesses and citizens alike. On November 8th of that year - also known as Black Friday - devastating floods destroyed much of easternTexas causing extensive damage including entire villages within miles of LaMarque including Vineland (now Livingston), Smithfield (now Huntsville), Amherst (now Midland) and other townships situated within Brazos River valley. More than $5 million was spent reconstruction efforts aloneand many jobs were lost among both men & women directly impacted thereby illustrating just how destructive such events can be & how quickly communities can rebound if given proper support!
