The La Marque Air Force Base is home to the Texas ANG, which is responsible for providing air support to the state’s military and law enforcement agencies. The base also houses the Texas Air National Guard’s 167th Airlift Wing, which provides airlift services to local government and first responders in the county. On October 8, 1951, the United States Air Force activated its duty squadron at La Marque AFB with Boeing B-27E Superfortresses. This was followed by an assignment of three squadrons on November 17, 1951 – No. 514th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy), No. 529th bombardment squadron (Medium), and No. 615th Fighter Squadron (Light). In 1992, La Marque AFB became home to Headquarters USAF Region III when it was transferred from wing control at Joint Base San Antonio–McChord Field/Lake Worth Field to Headquarters USAF Region I headquartered at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska. The 169th Airlift Wing components moved into their new facilities on July 1, 1993 when Headquarters USAF Regions II and III were combined under one command structure at Elmendorf AFB known as Aerospace Forces Command Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Operations Area or AFRICOMHQA for short. On August 1, 1994 AFRICOMHQA was realigned back to headquarters USAF when subordinate commands were transferred from USNORTHCOM elements located within SOUTHCOM elements located at Fort Bliss/El Paso AB and MacDill AFB respectively. In 2001 Special Operations Command resources were relocated from Humboldt County CA to La Marque AFB when that command was reorganized as unified Special Operations Command HQ Americas (USSOCOMHQA) with jurisdiction over all UAS operations within AFRICOMHQA functions including special operations forces warfare commander USSOComercy Pacific Fleet Commander USCG Hawaiian Islands Commander CINCPAC North Atlantic Commander USSOComposer Europe Commander CINCUSATCOM commander during Operation Neptune Spear). As a result of these changes USSOCOMHQA assumed responsibility for all UAS activities conducted by both Army Combat Arms Commands including: Army Aviation; Army Ground Forces; Marine Corps; Navy; Air Force Reserve Component... On May 24 th , 2006 a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker departed LaMarque Airport en route Randolph Field carrying humanitarian aid supplies for Typhoon Katrina victims in New Orleans

La Marque is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located in Midland County, about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Austin and 36 miles (60 km) southeast of Dallas. The population was 3,871 at the 2010 census. La Marque is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The name "La Marque" is Spanish for "the mark." The original settler who named the place was Francisco Martinez, who arrived in 1836 from Spain with his family and built a cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1849, Rancho San Antonio Mexican Land grantee Manuel Flores Purchased 1/2 mile (1 km) east of present-day Main Street from Martinez and founded Floresville, also known as La Marque. On July 10, 1860, under the provisions of Treaty #24 between Mexico and Texas that regulating slavery within its boundaries,[1] Mexican land grantee Juan Bautista de la Garza purchased 2 acres (0.81 ha)[2][3] west of present-day Main Street from Floresville rancher José Valdez Castro;[4] Garza called this parcel La Garxa's Rancho which he donated to the government for development into a cattle ranch.[5] In 1876 Mexican land grantee Jesús Márquez Caballero acquired an additional 0.81 acre (0.30 ha)[6][7][8][9] south of Floresville to become known as Rancho La Esperanza after his sister Esperanza Rodriguez Caballero's gift to her brother Márquez in 1880;[10][11] it was here that Alamo Hotel started construction in 1906 and still stands today as one of Austin's most popular tourist destinations.[12]:247–248 In 1907 prominent Wichita businessman J P Brady laid out plans for what would become Bracewell Park nearpresent day Main Street and US Highway 183;[13]:242–243 For several years Brady owned much of eastern Midland County before selling it to developer Harry Hayslip in 1915;[14]:246 PNRA established Adobe Walls National Monument on May 9th 1920 just northwest corner(s)of present day Main Street & Adobe Walls Blvd.; Waco Historical Museum opened November 5th 1923 adjacent thereto.– Ida Mae Slaughter house first constructed 1870

La Marque is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. It was founded in 1876 by John and Emma "Q" LaMarque. The LaMarques were the original owners of the land that now makes up the town. The first settlers in La Marque were Presbyterian missionaries who arrived in 1876. In 1888, two brothers named William and Edwin Hogg opened a store called The Hermitage on Main Street. They also began to fish for Bass and Catfish in their pond on the premises. In 1907, Quesada Brothers Hardware Store opened on Second Street and became one of LaMarque's earliest businesses. A post office was established at La Marque in 1912 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1973. It is also said that as early as 1870s white men had been trading with Native Americans near present-day La Marque, selling goods such as buffalo robes and arrowheads to them. By 1876, when John LaMarche Jr., an American white man from Kentucky, settled down near what is now La Marque with his family, he had already developed some trade relationships with the local tribe of Kiowa Indians . In 1881 John Sr., married Emma Quintero (née Garcia) from Mexico City; they moved to Texas together soon after their marriage. The couple had five children: John Jr., Jesse (1882-1957), Patience (1885-1973), Alfred (1888-1963), Alma Lúcia (1890-1968). John Sr.'s father had died when he was young so he took over management of his father's ranch which included parts of Williamson County - including part of what is now la marque - but he continued to reside permanently at Hogback Ranch until his death in 1899 . In 1902 Quesada Bros hardware store closed due to lack of customers; however, it reopened shortly thereafter under new ownership by Wm Hogg & Sons Store . Another post office operated at la marqUE from 1912–1973: Red River Valley Post Office . From 1916 until its discontinuation it served as the primary mail carrier for Williamson County residents living within 1/4 mile of their homes; this service ended when routing changes made by the US Postal Service caused changes effective July 1st1971 . Following World War I came a period during which many farmers left farming for wartime production jobs; this Migration led to increased population growth rates along With accompanying economic decline among many resident families throughout rural Williamson County resulting primarily from low wages earned by agricultural laborers ; however other industries did not follow suit [] However industry growth resumed following reestablishment of government services after WWII[] After more than 50 years without interruption or change - during which time several school districts have shifted allegiance away from the towns located within their boundaries [] In 1990 QuesADA Brothers Hardware Store reopened completely under new ownership with additional retail space]], currently operates as a general store.]]
La Marque was founded in 1853 and is the most populous town in Medina County. The post office, which opened in 1854, was the first in Medina County. La Marque is also the birthplace of Texas Governor Sam Houston, who was elected as a Whig to the U.S. Senate in 1859 and served until his death in 1865.
