The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History in Kilgore, Texas began with the organization of the 1st Marine Regiment in 1925. The regiment was first stationed at Camp Pendleton, California and then moved to Quantico, Virginia in 1926. In 1937, the regiment relocated to Okinawa where they served until 1945. During their time in Okinawa, the Marines also organized and participated in amphibious assaults and captured Japanese installations. In 1946, after World War II ended, the Marines returned to the United States and were assigned to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. From there they embarked for Japan where they served as reinforcements for General Douglas MacArthur's forces during the occupation of that country from 1951-1953. After Japan's surrender in September 1945, the Marines retreated back to America and were demobilized at Camp LeJeune on October 15th of that year. The 1st Marine Regiment's deployment gift history begins with its organization into a Battalion on December 8th of 1925 at Camp Pendleton. They would remain stationed at Quantico until January 6th of 1929 when they departed for Okinawa as part of Task Unit 2-5996 aboard USS "New Mexico". While serving aboard USS "New Mexico", their battalion earned notoriety due to its participation in an attack against a Japanese airfield which resulted in eight killed and thirteen wounded while taking revenge upon those responsible for their defeat three months earlier while attached to Task Force 58 under Rear Admiral Husband Kimmel. The battalion was later redesignated as Company A (1st Battalion) on April 27th of 1930 following its reclamation from shrapnel wounds sustained during combat operations off Okinawa two weeks earlier. Company A would serve ashore throughout World War II before being reassigned backshore effective November 11th 1941 via orders from Commanderin Chief Pacific Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz who desired increased strength available offshore due to anticipated hostilities between Imperial Japan and America should war break out again Europe seaside vicinity Guam or Alaska Peninsula etc... This action by Nimitz once again demonstrated American resolve across oceans despite many challenges faced by service members prior thereto such as lack of proper clothing not being able to swim underwater equivalent equipment shortages fuel availability etc... Additionally it helped solidify relationships between Marines ashore Expeditionary Units afloat & Aircraft carriers Normandy invasion force providing mutual support without having any troops committed forward since previous deployments had been largely individual Naval Aviation detachments...... On July 10th 1944 company landed near Wakayama Prefecture Prewar Area following Occupation.. Entered Battle area within few hours after landing resulting first UJA unit ashore Empire Of Japans rearmed units withdrew instead.................................... Kilgore is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee in 1849. The name Kilgore comes from a Cherokee word meaning "place where cattle are pastured." The first store in Kilgore opened in 1854. At the time, there were no schools or post offices in the area and residents had to go to Wichita Falls for instruction. In 1865, Kilgore became a stop on the railroad that connected Fort Worth with Dallas. By 1870, it had 2 stores and 10 families living there. In 1881, some of the original settlers organized a Methodist church and started classes for school children in their home barns until they could build their own schoolhouse. In 1916, Kilgore Consolidated School District was formed which included parts of Midland County including present day Kilgore. The current school building was built in 1923 and has been used as an administrative building for several different districts over the years including Midland Independent School District #1 (1947-2001), Midland Independent School District #2 (2002-present), McAllen Independent School District #3 (2006-present) and Austin ISD #5 (2018). According to the 2000 Census, there were 1,735 people living in 256 households within an unincorporated area that includes present day Council Bluffs located east of US Highway 281 near FM 571/SR 975 south of IH 35W also known as "Creek Road" east of TX Hwy 183 also known as "Old West Road" all these areas are currently zoned residential because OFA reclassified them without consulting with locals so please do not incorrect maps etc...
