Kilgore is a small town in Johnson County, Texas. The population was 914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Kilgore was founded in 1892 by Myron T. Kilgore and his family. The first store in Kilgore was built on what is now Prairie Road. A post office was established here in 1893, and the name of the town changed to Kilgore in 1896. The first school in Kilgore opened its doors in 1897, and that year it also became the seat of government for Johnson County. In 1907, kilgore voters approved a new school district which included the town. On May 5, 1912, KilgORE finally had its own fire department when Captain John Best set up an engine inside a Indian mound near Keystone Lake to fight a grass fire that had started nearby In 1951, following passage of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), kilgores schools were consolidated with other schools within Johnson County effective January 1, 1952 under Title I of ESEA Amendments No. 2 (Public Law 94-142). As part of this consolidation process all public elementary schools became "1st Class Schools" while all public high schools become "2nd Class Schools." On October 1st 1998 due to low enrollment rates much like many other rural communities across America KILGORE CENTER SCHOOL HELD ITS FIRST PTA MEETING TO PLAN THE FUTURE OF THE SCHOOLS AS THEY NOW STAND

Kilgore, Texas is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. Kilgore was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1836 as a station on the Santa Fe Trail. The first settler in Kilgore was John McConnell and his family who arrived in 1836. In 1840 John's son Alexander came to America and married Jane McKay from Denton County, Scotland. They had six children: three sons (Alexander, David and Andrew), one daughter (Jane) and two daughters-in-law (Fannie and Sarah). All but Jane died young either from disease or exposure on the journey overland to new land that they discovered in what is now Tarrant County. In 1861 Alexander’s widow Jane McKee donated land to become the town of Kilgore which she named after her late husband’s birthplace of Killyleagh near Mullingar on Stormontshire borders in Ireland where he had been born some years earlier. She also contributed money toward building a school which opened its doors for students on October 12th, 1860.. The first post office opened in 1865 under the name of Killyleagh with James Sutherlin as Postmaster/elevator man until 1870 when Wm Hays took over operations because of ill health subsequent to an attack by a snakebite while traveling through Texas that left him paralysed from below the waist down; however he continued to serve as Postmaster until his death on January 24th 1902 . In 1907 Clyde Aiken became Manager for First National Bancorp who merged with J P Morgan Company becoming First National Corporation which included Kilgore within its corporate boundaries along with Fort Worth and other large Texan cities although it never achieved full fledged national status like those larger cities did until later during World War II when its assets were used to help support war efforts .During this time Clyde also helped found both Baylor University (now Baylor College) - located east of town off IH 35W just south of Loop 610 West - as well as started up The Independent School District #1 serving all unincorporated areas outside city limits including much of Garland County including present day Arlington Country Club west side Road TTG opposite White Sands Missile Range This addition increased enrollment at KCDC by 50% resulting then in an investment valued at $5 million bringing about job growth across all campuses averaging 30% annually during this time frame making it one of largest private employer throughout Central Texas During these years Kilgore experienced numerous annual events such as Highland Festivals Folk Dancing contests Horse Racing Car Shows etc ....leading eventually to annexation by Fort Worth sometime after 1945 due largely To attracting high quality jobs available here during difficult times following World War II ........ On July 1st 1957 Branch Davidians attacked & killed 4 people & injured another 8 inside their compound hereintriggering what would become known nationally as "the siege" lasting 3 days before finally surrendering without any further violence .............. thereafter becoming an FBI designated terrorist organization
The town of Kilgore was founded in 1846 by the McLennan family. The McLennans were a powerful cattle and land owners in the area. The town grew quickly due to its location and natural resources. In 1860, Kilgore became a county seat and remained so until 1907. In that year, Kilgore was renamed Texarkana after the capital of Arkansas, Little Rock.
