Irving, Texas is a city located in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 277 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Midland County and has a population of 939 as of 2010. Irving was founded by Anglo-Saxon colonists in 1827 and became a town in 1847. It grew rapidly during the Second World War due to the production of munitions and other weapons for the war effort. The city experienced significant growth following its incorporation as a city on December 6, 1990. The population had increased to 1,836 by 2007. The history of Irving began with English settlers who arrived in 1827 looking for land to sell to Mexicans who were already living in what is now Midland County. While no evidence exists that these early English settlers actually traded goods or services with Mexican residents, it does seem logical given their proximity to Mexico City at that time. In 1848, when Midland County was organized, Irving was incorporated as a town under the name "Irving". This choice may have been made because it would be easier for officials to track property ownership changes within the fledgling town since they could only issue deeds through formal channels such as marriage licenses and probate court records. In 1863, during the American Civil War, Irving served as an important military base used by Union forces against Confederate forces near present day Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DALLAS/FORT WORTH). As such, Irving saw some heavy combat including skirmishes with rifle fire from several hundred yards away! Although many buildings and homes were destroyed during this time period due to artillery bombardments or bombings from Union troops acting on orders from higher up (i.e., General Ulysses S Grant), many others remain standing today testament both to heroism on behalf of local residents during wartime as well as later development within the community after hostilities ceased. Eventually peace returned home and all but one building within Noble & Green's original storefront block were rebuilt post-war using Federal funds available at that time! John Biscoe on November 3, 1859 as part of the Trans-Pecos Expedition under General Sam Houston. The name Irving was given to it by George Irving, who settled in what is now this town in 1851. The first post office at Irving opened in 1863, and the first telephone line went up in 1923. At present, Irving has a population of over 145,000 people making it one of the most populous towns in Texas. The early history of Irving can be traced back to 1849 when Captain John Biscoe organized an expedition led by General Sam Houston to cross the Pecos River into New Mexico Territory. After reaching Albuquerque on September 8th they continued their journey south but were met with fierce resistance from Mexican forces who had fortified themselves along the way at Santa Fe City. On October 2nd they reached Nacogdoches and established their camp there before continuing their journey northward through Canyon de Chelly National Monument and down into New Mexico Territory where they arrived on October 10th at Lavaca Barracks near Cananea (present day Window Rock). After spending several weeks resting his men at Lavaca Barracks Captain Biscoe set out again on October 14th for his next objective which was Wellington Barracks located about 20 miles southeast of Phoenix, Arizona at today’s Job Corps Annex location just off Interstate 10 east of downtown Phoenix
