In 1902, a ship called HMCS Athabaskan arrived with 6,000 pounds of candy and cigarettes for the citizens of Corpus Christi and Galveston (then part of Mexico). This gift helped to inaugurate trade between Texas and Mexico - an important relationship at that time. In 1909, another large shipment arrived with 2,500 pounds of goods including hardware, fireworks, cigars, clothing and vegetables for use by troops stationed at Fort Worth Army Ammunition Plant. In 1912, USS Constitution carried 1st Battalion 8th Marines across the Rio Grande River into Hidalgo County for training purposes. This event led to increased trade between Texas and Mexico due to this deployment as well as growing US-Mexican animosity over territorial issues surrounding Mexicali Province. The 1st Battalion 8th Marines returned home in 1915 after serving their tour without incident.

Hutto, Texas is a small town located in Webb County, Texas. The population was 1,821 at the 2000 census. The name of the town comes from a Comanche word meaning "fortress." Hutto was first settled by Anglo-Saxon settlers in 1836. In 1836, Colonel James Waco and his brigade of cavalry arrived in what is now Webb County to help suppress an insurrection against Mexican rule in Tarrant County. Colonel Waco's brigade included several hundred Texan Rangers led by Captain John Fagan. In 1845, Senator John Crain ceded two square miles (about 0.80 km²) of land to Hutto for development as a military post called Fort Worth Post Office Department No. 2 on Red River near present day Fort Worth Airport. On July 5, 1865 the fort became known as Fort Humble after General William Buford took command of Union Army forces opposing Confederate Brigadier General Robert Ewell's attempt to take control of Dallas and its environs from Confederate General Jubal Early's army during the Battle of Dallas Bridge on November 3rd. In 1907, Hutto had a population of 579 people when it was named as one of six towns selected for inclusion within new Denton Municipal Airport district conceived by then-Denton Mayor Jock Mahony and City Manager Floyd Stephenson with plans to improve air quality there through expanded passenger services and other airport improvements including: enlarged runways; new taxiway; service station; hangar;prontera tion room; maintenance hangar;and research lab buildings which would become the current Research Aviation Center (RAC). By 1928 less than 10% of all passengers arriving at Denton Municipal Airport were carried off-site because only two or three airports could offer commercial services at that time access to general aviation traffic potential customers could arrive at any major city or airport with limited facilities available for general aviation operations despite claims made by promoters that this type o
