The Hutto National Guard is a unit of the United States Army that was established in 1917. The Hutto National Guard's mission is to provide security and support for the local government in Hutto, Texas. The unit has served with distinction in both World War I and World War II. Today, the Hutto National Guard is one of the smallest units within the U.S. Army, with just over 1,000 soldiers as of 2009. The primary function of the national guard is to provide military assistance to local governments during times of emergency or crisis. The first Huttonian Guards were raised in 1917 by Colonel John C-L Bean who had been appointed colonel commandant of Texas' 2nd Infantry Regiment (First Texas Brigade). The regiment was mobilized on September 5th, 1917 and assigned to Department IX of General Pershing's Expeditionary Force under Major General John J Military District #5. On December 12th, 1917 Colonel Bean ordered all troops at Fort Worth Cemetery to form an encampment around Cemetery Hill for observation purposes only; no combat operations were planned for that month or year[1]. In World War I, the 1st Battalion (Hutton) served with distinction as part of Company A (6th Texan Infantry) on many battlefields including Meuse-Argonne Offensive where they helped capture 4 German artillery positions and maintain communication trenches with their comrades back home[2]. In 1918 they fought at Belleau Wood near Arras before being mustered out on July 15th[3] thus ending their service with Company A(6th Texan Infantry)]. After World War I ended there was a call for volunteers from across the country so on October 25th 1919 10 officers and men from Company A(6thTexan Infantry) marched into Austin to become members of "the old 10" which later became known as Headquarters & Troop D (Hutton NGVR)[4]. From this point forward Captain Edward W Smith assumed command/commanding officer position until February 1922 when he transferred his commands to Captain James B Hogg [5] who then continued command until January 1923 when he transferred his commands again becoming Battalion Commander [6][7] . This led directly to Squadron Leader William P Beattie taking command on March 16TH 1924 becoming Squadron Leader / Commanding Officer [8][9] . It should be noted that these early commanding officers did not have any formal military training other than what they learned while serving in their respective regiments which made them more effective leaders than later commanders would be able to be because they lacked formal education or experience in leading armies

Hutto, Texas is a small town located in Medina County, Texas. The population was 2,611 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area and lies on the eastern edge of Medina County. The community was founded in 1881 by John Hutto and his family. The name "Hutto" comes from Spanish for "place where huts are built." The Huttos were farmers who grew corn and wheat. They also raised cattle and pigs. In 1915, the Huttos moved to their present home on East First Street in Hutto after purchasing land from local rancher J.D. Hammons. John Hutto died in 1944 and his wife Alice continued to live in Hutto until her death in 1971. Alice's son, Walter Hutton, Jr., became the first Mayor of Hutto when he was elected in 1978; he served until 1984 when he ran for office again but lost to incumbent mayor Harry Slesinger). According to the 2010 census, there are 1,936 people living in Hutton with a median age of 42 years old (the youngest being 9 years old). Out of these 1,936 residents, 534 (27%) are below the poverty line; 705 (35%) have earned a college degree or higher; 521 (24%) work full time within normal job hours; 388 (15%) own their home outright or owe less than $25 per month on their mortgage
