The Hutto Army National Guard Armory was founded in 1917 and is one of the oldest armories in Texas. The current armory building, which is located on Green Street in Hutto, was erected in 1935. It served as the armory for the 1st Infantry Division Headquarters and Service Company, 2nd Infantry Division Headquarters and company A until it was moved to its present location in 1961. The Hutto Army National Guard Armory also houses a museum that tells the history of the unit and the state of Texas’s military forces.

Hutto is a city in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Hutto is located on U.S. Highway 281 and State Highway 288, both of which run northeast-southwest as they approach Austin proper. The first white person to live in what is now Hutto was John Wesley Powell who traveled through the region in 1874 when he explored the Llano Estacado and discovered an Indian trail that led from Zacatecas to Frio County. In 1881, J.D. Hogg founded what would become Hutto with his family after purchasing land from two other citizens, Elisha Smith and Jesse Hardin Bateman for $1 per acre (equivalent to $ in ). The town was named for General James Fenton Kinnerley who had been with Powell on his ill-fated attempt to cross the Rio Grande near Buena Vista in 1872 . In 1907, officials from Lubbock decided that Hutto should be its own municipality since it had failed to meet annexation requirements set by Lubbock City Council; however, by 1911 residents had petitioned Fort Worth to annex Hutton because they felt that their town needed more economic development than Lubbock could provide without doing so. The townsite finally annexed into Fort Worth on April 1st 1912 . In 1922 a new dam was completed upstream of present day Hutto Boulevard creating Lake Travis; however due to increased water demand resulting from this new infrastructure development and environmental concerns about the lake's potential effects on local ecology and fish populations within miles of its surface ,Lubbock City Council voted on November 3rd 1924 not to annex either Hutton or neighboring Springdale into Lubbock because they felt that these towns were already well served by nearby communities such as Richardson . On January 2nd 1927 a fire destroyed most of downtown Hutton leaving no physical evidence remaining of where the town once stood except for some foundations dating back to 1881 which are still standing today . A few years later during World War II many businesses closed due to rationing but reopened after war ended ; this period also saw important construction projects such as the completion of Loop 410 which linked Austin directly with Dallas/Fort Worth Airport

Hutchinson County, Texas was organized in 1836 and named for James Hutchins, a United States Senator from Kentucky. The county seat was first located at Terrell but it moved to Hutto in 1840. In 1845 the state legislature created a new Hutchinson County, which included present-day Austin. In 1850 the population of Austin reached 3,000 and by 1870 it had grown to over 10,000 people. The city of Austin was founded in 1871 and quickly became the largest city in Texas. Hutto became a small town until after World War II when growth resumed and it has remained an agricultural center since then. Today, Hutto is known as one of the most important historical towns inTexas because of its many cultural attractions including its Historic District which includes over 20 buildings dating back to the 1800s. The district also includes 5 Civil War Battlefield Sites where troops from both sides fought during the war. Additionally, there are several other museums and restaurants within walking distance of the district that offer interesting insight into local history such as the Houstons Museum of Art which features paintings by Houstonian artist Sam Houston and separately operated Houstons restaurant which served meals from 1840 through 1959 primarily outfitted with period furnishings
