Hurst, Texas is a small town in Richardson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,011 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town was founded on November 4, 1876 by A.P. Hurst and Lina Bigham as a cattle ranch (later renamed the Hurst Ranch) about northeast of present-day Richardson . The first post office was established in 1880 and the first store opened in 1881. In 1901, A.P. Hurst donated land to create what is now downtown Hurst; the name for the business district now called "Downtown" came from this donation. In 1907, Prentice Hulbert became president of Texaco and donated land east of Downtown to build what became ChevronTexaco Park (). This park includes a visitor center and several oil wells drilled by Texaco during its early years in Hurst. The economy of downtown Hurst has been based largely on agriculture since then until more recently when retail began to grow with development along I-30 north and south of Downtown (); that shopping also continues today with various anchor stores including Macy's (originally JCPenney), Sears (), Kmart (), Home Depot (), Dick's Sporting Goods (), BJ's Wholesale Club () and Kroger (). On July 1, 1912, Hurricane Andrew destroyed much of rural northeastern Richardson County while causing widespread damage across central Texas; most notably to central Houston . As a result of these events many people left their homes or were forced out when mortgages were taken over farms which had been damaged or lost value because their properties had been destroyed or assessable only for agricultural purposes only; such changes have occurred throughout southern Willis County., including Higbeeville which share some similar characteristics Some new construction has occurred near downtown including: an arena/pavilion for the city’s professional ice hockey team known as Dallas Stars () which replaced an existing building used by event promoters primarily during high school graduationuations along I-30; two large digital billboards just westbound exit 491 from I-30 between State Highway 672nd Avenue South (northwest border) and FM 727th Street Southwest ();[Note: These billboards are no longer there.] one large HD screen display within 100 feet (25 m) southwest corner of First Baptist Church located adjacent to Interstate 30 Business Loop interchange]

Hurst, Texas is located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The community was named after General John H. Hurst, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as a U.S. Representative from Texas. In 1881, the town was organized as a trading post on the Lower Colorado River by settlers of Cedar Hill Ranch and other nearby settlements. By 1907, Hurst had reached its present size with a population of 100 residents. The town's first school opened in 1909 and was operated by the Methodist Episcopal Church until it closed in 1916 due to financial difficulties. In 1925, the town won its first municipal election and became an incorporated municipality under the name of Hurst City Limits Incorporated. At that time, Hurst had a population of approximately 300 people and included six businesses including a library, grocery store, post office, bank branch, Masonic Lodge No. 7 (the only one still extant in Hurst) and two churches—The Methodist Episcopal Church (now First Baptist Church) and The PresbyterianChurch (now United Pentecostal Churches). In 1990-1991 Hurricane Agnes destroyed most of downtown Hurst but did not damage or affect much else within city limits; however some homes were damaged or lost their roofs throughout the storm's landfall area In 1995-1996 Wade Davis ran for mayor against incumbent Don Wahlgren and emerged victorious with 54% of the vote to Wahlgren's 46%. Davis then served two terms as mayor before running for governor in 2002 against Ann Richards concurrent with his successful campaign for Mayor of Houston After being elected Governor in 2002 he announced that he would end state support for Jeff Sessions' failed attempt to pass legislation making it more difficult for women to get jobs through family history research He also announced that if reelected he would fund public education at all grade levels across all denominations starting with PreKindergarten through 12th Grade Whilst this policy change has been met with mixed reactions throughout Texan politics there is no doubt that it has been highly effective at increasing access to quality public education
