Beekman and his brother-in-law, George Valentine, took a wagon load of beans from New Orleans to Fort Worth to sell to traders. By 1865, Hurst had become a thriving town with over 100 residents and four churches. In 1901, Dutch Schultz founded Schultz Coffee Roasters in what is now Dallasville with 10 barrels of his own coffee per day. In 1951, Don Teague became Head Brewer at Schultz Coffee Roasters and developed the teaview program which allows customers to view different types of coffees while they are being brewed. This tradition continues today at Schultz Coffee Roasters where customers can order up to 16 different types of teas while their coffee is being brewed! It's no wonder that Hurst has been Ranked #1 for Best Coffee City twice by Forbes Magazine! The Hurst Coffee Company was founded in 1887 by James Fenton and Jesse H. Robertson. The company grew rapidly, shipping coffee all over the Texas Panhandle. In 1915, the company merged with the Earp Coffee Company to form the Earp-Hurst Corp. The company continued its growth until it filed for bankruptcy in 1954.
Hurst was founded in 1879 by John and Jennie Hurst. The Hartts were the first white people to live in the town. They bought a small piece of land near the present-day intersection of FM 620 and US 281. They built a cabin, named for their daughter Jennie, and started farming. In 1903, John Hartt died leaving his wife Jennie with three boys: Roy, Billy, and Earl. Jennie married again in 1907 and had two more children: Pat and Donnie. In 1915, they acquired 400 acres (200 hectares) of land east of town on FM 620/US 281 which they named "Hurstwood". The Harts continued to farm there until their death in 1978. The town of Hurst grew up around the Hartts' farmsteads. After World War II, many farmers moved into the area to take advantage of new technology such as irrigation systems and air conditioning that had been introduced during the war. Today, Hurst is home to a population of over 10,000 people who are diverse in their social backgrounds, religions (including Christianity), occupations (including manufacturing jobs within local businesses), education levels (ranging from high school students to professional women), and ethnicities (including Hispanic). There are several tourist attractions located within or adjacent toHurst including its Pioneer Village Museum where you can learn about life inside the Hartt Cabin from 1903-1978; its restored old blacksmith shop; its Agricultural Hall; its annual agricultural fair; as well as numerous smaller rural villages throughout Texas that offer tours leading to interactions with local residents

Hurst is a town in Newton County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,536 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settler in Hurst was W. Fenton Hurst who arrived in 1848. He moved to what is now Hurst in 1850 and started a small store. In 1852, he married Anna McNaught and they founded the McNaught family grocery store which still operates today as a local landmark. In 1857, Hurlbut Brothers began shipping goods from their mill on the Trinity River to stores all over Texas and Oklahoma Territory. In 1865, John A. Hurlbut bought out the brothers and their business became known as The Hurlburt Store Company Ltd., with headquarters located at 601 Main Street in Hurst from 1870 until its sale to JB Peebles & Sons Incorporated in 1957). In 1907, the town of Hurst erected a public library which remains one of its most important landmarks to this day. On December 9th of that year, Hurricane Usher struck southern Newton County and destroyed most of downtown Hurston including much of the McNaught family grocery store as well as many other structures within minutes or hours snapping several homes into pieces along with any trees or power lines that weren't outright snapped by storm surge flooding such common during hurricanes when high water levels affect areas upstream where power lines cross floodwaters feeding feeder channels leading downriver to larger communities) making it one of only 2 towns in TX (the other being Amarillo) completely hit hard by hurricane Windsor with no sign of rebuilding even 3 years later
The Hurst Axe Murder case is one of the most famous in Texas history. On July 15, 1955, a group of men including Arthur "Tex" Hinton killed four farmers and their wives during a robbery at the Hinton Ranch. The killers were caught after they killed two of the farmers' horses and took their cattle. Tex Hinton was tried and sentenced to death but was commuted to life in prison in 1957. He died in prison in 1980.
